  1. I know this is an old thread but I've been trying to find out how I could change the password for my database. It sounds as if this is something you have to do. Is that correct and would I just follow the instructions given to the person who first started this message? Sheryl
  2. I had someone help me fix some errors I was getting with my SMF forum and he said my "FTP session control doesn't work." He also said, I had too many connections and it showed none . This was the error he got: Response: 421 Too many connections (8) from this IP Error: Could not connect to server Status: Delaying connection due to previously failed connection attempt.. Do I need to do something or do you have to do something? Sheryl
  3. Thank you both for the help and thanks for the links. Yes, that was the thread I was talking about. It must be nice to know exactly where to look for everything, lol. I did a ton of searches and was only getting more confused with what I was finding. That install link never came up in my search although I was at that site and just didn't realize what I needed to click. Sorry if I seem pretty dumb but I really appreciate your help. Sheryl
  4. I thought I asked about this once before but I can't seem to find any messages on this topic so I'll ask again. And I hope I'm asking in the right place. I want to try and install a phpBB message board on my site and I don't know what to do first. I've looked at some instructions for installing message boards but most of the instructions are quite old and don't seem to apply to my current cpanel. For instance, there's no add on script for Invision Board. I was going to try installing that message board but don't see a way to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've added a SMF message board but I wanted to try something else and see if I like a different style. I may find out that phpBB is way over my head but I thought I'd give it a try. Sheryl
  5. It worked! Thanks again. I can't believe how easy it was. When you don't understand anything, it always seems so much harder. Ssehryl
  6. Thanks. After I asked this question, I was thinking I might need to set up a sub domain for it so I've been looking into doing that. I think I've got it figured out. I'll let you know if it worked. Thanks so much for the quite replies. If I had to wait too long to try this out, I might forget the steps I needed to take. If I don't finish this at the time I'm thinking about it, my brain will have to start all over again. Sheryl
  7. OK, thanks. I got that part and I'm starting to install it. Can I make it so it has a different url then my original smf message board? Do I need to do this when installing the software using Fantastico or is that something I should have done first? If I should have done that first, where or how do I do it? Sheryl
  8. I decided I wanted to set up a second smf message board but I'm confused on how to go about doing that. You guys helped me out a lot when I set up the first message board but that was awhile ago and I don't remember the steps I had to take to do it. First of all, I see I need to put this second message board in a new folder with a different name. Is this something I need to set up first before having Fantastico install the software? And where do I set up this folder? I have a folder under File manager for SMF. Do I set up my folder there with the new name? I'm assuming if that's the case, I would install the software for smf and then direct it to that folder? I don't want to click the install button until I'm sure what I'm doing. Well sort of sure what I'm doing since I really have no idea what I'm even talking about, lol. With that being said, I hope I'm asking the right questions and someone will understand what I'm trying to accomplish. Thanks. Sheryl
  9. I guess I'll cross spell checker off of my list of things to investigate, lol. I never realized they created a problem for servers. Sheryl
  10. I can see why they're not allowed then. If I were to set up a PhpBB message board is it possible they might have a different spell checker that can be used or do all spell checkers slow down the servers? Sheryl
  11. I still haven't heard back from the help desk but it sounds like I'm out of luck for a having a spell checker on the board. Sheryl
  12. I still haven't heard back from the help desk but
  13. I haven't gotten a reply from the help desk yet but in doing some more searching, I think the name is Aspell and or Pspell. I found some old messages where others had the same problem and they were told the host needed to install those two programs so I'm assuming this hasn't changed. Hopefully I'll be able to get this confirmed shortly. Sheryl
  14. No. I'll have to ask the people at the SMF support site it's name. Sheryl
  15. I thought I just added another message to this thread but I don't see it, so I'm not sure I hit the right button. If it shows up twice, I'm sorry about that. In any event, I've been looking further into using the SMF message boards and see you can have a spell checker. It won't work on my board so I asked for some help from the SMF help site and they said if it's not working, my host may not have installed it or may not have set it up correctly. Since my message board was installed into my SQL database, I assume Total Choice is my host. Is there someone I have to notify about this or is there something I should have done when setting up the message board using Fantastico? Sheryl
  16. Thanks Bruce. I'm sorry if this sounds like dumb questions.
  17. Thanks for explaining the difference between message board and blog. I think message board is what I want to stick with. As to the name, perhaps I could have changed the name of my message board when I originally set it up but didn't realize it. Right now my message board has the exact same name as my website but I wanted to set up another board with a different name. Can I install SMF a second time with a different name or would installing it override my original installation? And if I wanted to set up an entirely different message board like PhpBB, would they be the ones who'd have to help me with the install? One more question, although maybe this isn't the right place to ask. How do I find out how many databases I can use on my SQL? Sheryl
  18. Quite some time ago, I set up a message board using SMF (simple machines) and was able to do it because of information I received from Total choice. I never really did much with my message board but now I'm thinking of using it on a daily bases only I wanted to see if I could change the name of the board or add a new message board using a different name. In checking the FAQ page at Total Choice, I see SMF isn't listed. I'm assuming it must have been listed when I originally set it up because I don't know where else I could have discovered that board but can I set up a new message board using what's listed on the FAQ page? The two choices are PhpBB and Invision. It looks as if Invision isn't free and I'm totally confused as to how to go about installing PhpBB. I am pretty clueless when it comes to using PhpBB. I believe it's a language on the idea of HTML or CSS but I don't know how to use it. I've looked at some tutorials for PhpBB but they sound so Greek. Could someone help me figure out where I need to start in order to set up another message board? And what's the difference between setting up a message board verses setting up a blog? I'm thinking there's more options with a message board. I'm not really a blogger. Sheryl
  19. Thanks for the suggestion about the message board. I successfully installed it on my site using Fantastico after I watched the movie tutorial on how to use Fantastico. Everything is starting to make more sense now that I've installed these two programs. Sheryl
  20. I just thought I'd tell you I have successfully installed the photo album. Again, thanks for all your help. Now I think I'll look into adding a message board. Is there a tutorial for that too? I wasn't having much luck finding a tutorial but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place. Sheryl
  21. OK, thanks. And thanks for all your help. Sheryl
  22. Thanks for the link to the movie on setting up a database. I decided to try it since I had gotten this far and really wanted to try and figure this all out. Also, because to tell you the truth, I got confused with Fantastico and instead of asking what was probably a stupid question, I figured I'd see if I could finish what I started and I did, but now I'm stumped on how to configure ImageMagick which is the graphics module your tutorial recommended. It says I have to install the ImageMagick binaries on my server, then enter the path in the box below. The box starts off like this /usr/bin/ and I don't know if I'm suppose to keep that, change that, or add to it. I also don't know how or where to install the ImageMagick binaries. Would you be able to help me with this?
  23. Thanks for your patience with me. As you can probably tell, I really have no clue what I'm doing so I'm lost unless everything is spelled out. I did try doing a search after I posted my last question on databases and realized I needed to set one up using SQL. I still may do that because if I ever figure out how to install this photo album program, I'd also like to try and figure out how to install a message board. It looks as if I need a database for that too. I think I will scrap this and try installing it using Fantastico. Hopefully that will be easier but getting back to this database, I would like to understand how to set that up. Is there a tutorial on it or can you answer a couple questions for me like, 1. In the case of setting up a photo album, do you suggest adding a different name then my cpanel name? 2.Would Current user and password be my cpanel name and password? 3.Do you suggest changing anything under priviledges? 4. And do I have to put something in the space for access host? If so, what would I put? Sheryl
  24. I think this is getting way over my head. If I understand your instructions, I'm suppose to put my cpanel name on 2 different lines? The DB Username line and DB Name? I tried doing that and came up with another error saying they couldn't connect to the database information provided and another error message that said localhost: Access denied for user 'My cpanel name'@'localhost' to database 'mycpanel name' I've never set up a data base so maybe there was something else I had to do first? Sheryl
  25. That worked Bruce but now I'm stumped on the next page. BTW, the instructions for setting up Gallery seem to be different from the actual steps. I wonder if the instructions need to be updated. From the Configuration on, is entirely different from the instructions I'm trying to follow. In any event, the next page is asking me set up a Data base. Of course I don't know how to do that. This is what it's looking for: Database type: MySQL (all versions) DB Hostname: DB Username: DB Password: DB Name: Table Prefix: Column Prefix
