  1. Have you tried uploading via the cpanel file upload? (I often use that at work, as ftp is blocked).
  2. As has already been suggested, you can do an ipconfig at each machine. Also, when you view your router settings there should be a page somewhere showing you which IP addresses have been allocated to each device.
  3. Not sure if any of this is relevant, but I'll throw it in anyway... In the past I have had difficulty in getting certain laptops to connect to a wireless network. Often there are two different utilities for connecting - one is the Microsoft version but often the other will be a utility made by the manufacturer of your card. So if you are trying the Microsoft one, then maybe try the other. Also in regard to the IP conflict, you may want to check the IP addresses that are being handed out by the router. For example, on my network my modem/router is 192.168.1.1, my wireless access point is 192.168.1.2 and my two printers are 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.4 (ie I have assigned static IPs to all of them). The router has been configured to hand out addresses in the range 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.199, therefore avoiding handing out any addresses already in use. Anyway, it may not help but maybe these are two more suspects you can eliminate. Cheers, Dave
  4. No worries.
  5. I have used a program called Paparazzi on a Mac and so while I was doing a little search for a possible Windows equivalent, I stumbled across this discussion. It mentions a program called iPageSaver by Spidersoft. The blurb on the website says: "iPageSaver lets you easily capture and save screenshots of webpages as images (jpg or png), Web archives (mht) or native html format. It's easy to use interface lets you quickly create permanent copies of any web page. You can also setup lists of webpage links to be automatically browsed and saved for you." I haven't tried it, but it may be worth a look. Cheers, Dave
  6. Hi thejerm, Just stumbled across your post and wasn't sure if you worked it out... My config.php file for Moodle has the following lines in it: $CFG->wwwroot = 'http://www.somedomain.com/moodle'; $CFG->dirroot = '/home/somedoma/public_html/moodle'; Make sure that the 'somedoma' bit on the dirroot line is your TCH account name - it may only be the first 8 letters of your domain name. Cheers, Dave (Edit: It didn't like displaying my first dummy domain!)
  7. Hi Hillhikerz, Not sure if you are still looking for a solution but I recently signed up with Google Spreadsheets. It allows you to create, import, store and share spreadsheets via a browser. Hope this helps, Cheers, Dave
  8. Hi Darcy, I have been using Moodle for a number of years. I originally tried hosting it on my own server (a very low spec linux box) but it kept falling over once I had more than two or three users connected simultaneously. I then tried it on a free hosting service that I was using at the time and that was okay until they decided to turn Safe Mode on by default, thus blocking sites which needed Safe Mode off, such as Moodle. I specifically joined TCH because I knew Moodle would run on it. The creator of Moodle (Martin Dougiamas) originally hosted the Moodle website on TCH, before he set it up on his own servers. If you do a search for TCH on the Moodle forums (http://moodle.org/course/view.php?id=5), you will find a number of posts which discuss issues that others have had with Moodle on TCH. You are correct in saying that some users have had issues, mainly in regard to "bottlenecks" in accessing the main database. However, from my own experience, I have not had any problems with Moodle that were caused by TCH hosting. I am currently running Moodle in a high school environment with five active courses and a total of 50 users. I usually have between 12 and 20 users logged in simultaneously. In my previous school, I had ten active courses and over 300 active users, with up to 50 users logged in simultaneously. At least twice a year, we conducted online examinations with 50 users all doing multiple choice tests at the same time, with no issues at all. I would suggest that Moodle will be just fine for what you want to do. Anyway, I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me if you need any help in getting things up and running. Cheers, Dave
  9. Looks like my first GMail Hosted request went unanswered, so I created a GMail account and tried again using that and three days later got an invite. Looks like I now need to get the Helpdesk guys to change the MX records - I can't see anywhere to do this in cPanel.
  10. Can I ask how long it took to get it set up? I lodged an application the other day (Monday?) and so far I haven't heard anything back. On a slightly different tack, does anyone know what type of customers Google is after? (ie What are the best answers to give to get accepted...)
  11. Well that beats me - Windows Commander for Win 95
  12. My favourite program hasn't been mentioned yet, probably because FTP is only a small part of what it can do. It is called Total Commander and it can be found at http://www.ghisler.com/ As well as FTP, it is a complete file manager with some really neat features. It is shareware and costs US$34. (It is fully functional, with just a nag screen at startup). An earlier version of this was the first shareware program that I ever actually paid money for, because it really is worth it!
