TCH-Thomas Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 (edited) I have for a long time been subscribing to several forums without getting any notifications that new threads have been started. Now someone gonna point out what has been told many times There may be more replies to this topic, but only 1 email is sent per board visit for each subscribed topic. This is to limit the amount of mail that is sent to your inbox.orPlease note that if you wish to get email notification of any replies to this topic, you will have to click on the "Track this Topic" link shown on the topic page, or by visiting the link below: However, i dont think thats the issue now. Cause even if i do visit the topic or replying to it, i am not getting any notifications. One example, today at 12:41 PM TCH-Alan started a topic about the server 48 move, now 01.20 PM and i have gotten no notification about it. Im not mad, just thinks its a little strange that i dont even get notifications about new topics even if subscribed to the forum. I think too that this may be the reason why people gets so mad when they see in forums that "their" is being maintained and they get no notifications about it even if they too are subscribed to that forum. Deverill Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 Hi Thomas, I vaguely remember a discussion like this and the testing that some did, if I remember right, showed that if you just close your browser you won't get notified but if you click the Log Out button it will send the notice. It's something to try. Hope it works! Quote
jandafields Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 I get that problem all the time. I can't rely on email notifications anymore from this forum. They many times never show up. About logging out to fix the problem: You should receive a notification of a reply even if you are still logged in. That's how it works on any other forum I've dealt with. Maybe there is an forum option for this that an admin could check out? Quote
TCH-Don Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 It works fine for me, check your setting for the forum in my controls (above) for e-mail address = valid address board setting = Enable 'Email Notification' by default? Quote
Samrc Posted May 9, 2004 Posted May 9, 2004 Thomas You recently changed email addresses when your site changed address. Check the email address in your profile to be sure it's your current address. Also If your ISP has spam filtering turned on it might have caught the emails as unwanted emails (seems the spam filtering emails are better at stopping WANTED emails than unwanted emails lately)! Add TCH as acceptible friend, etc to allow all communication in from them. -Samantha Quote

I get way from all "new topics". So since i do get some, the adress in profile is correct. My isp have some sort of spam-filter, but it sucks (in other words i get alot spam) Im not sure if i can change it (i see no option for that on their site). I have forumposts to go to my name@jikrantz.se adress, so would it be spamassasin (or how you spell it) that i should add TCH to friends? I guess i just thinks its weird that i do get some but not all. Quote
jandafields Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 According to the Invision-Power Website: You will only receive email notifications if you are logged out. If you close your browser and don't click log out, you will still be logged in for several more minutes. So, if you are looking at some posts in another part of the forums and someone replies to another topic you are subscribed, you will not be notified unless someone else replies after you have been logged out. So, while I'm sitting here typing this post, I am missing any notifications from other posts I am subscribed to. Although this is very frusterating and non-standard, this is the way that Invision-Power-Board works. It is not something that is controlled by TCH. Unless Invision decides to change the way this works, there is probably nothing to be done about it. One thing you can do (if you have posted in a topic you want to track) is to click "search" up at the top, make sure "All Forums" is selected, leave the keywords field blank, and type your username in the username field. It will show you everything you have posted to in the last thirty days, with the most recently posted to ones first (by anyone - not just you). So just look at the first few and see if there is anything new. By the way, other than this one issue, I really like the way Invision Power Board works. It seems very intuitive and user-friendly. TCH-Don Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Its a mystery I am logged on on here for hours, and get e-mail notices all the time. The only other setting that might make a difference is Enable 'Email Notification' by default? Enabling this option will automatically subscribe you to any topic you start or reply to. I don't know why it works for some and not others. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 (edited) I am logged on on here for hours, and get e-mail notices all the time. Same here, BUT, it hasnt always been like that. but for some reason it has improving alot the last 1-2 weeks. So i agree, it is a mystery. EDIT: Can it have something to do with the new main server? Boojum Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 A few observations: You will only receive email notifications if you are logged out. If you close your browser and don't click log out, you will still be logged in for several more minutes.I occasionally forget to log out, and am still logged in when I return, hours or sometimes days later. I am logged on on here for hours, and get e-mail notices all the time. This accords with my experience: I receive some notifications, and not others, whether I'm logged in or not. Same here, BUT, it hasnt always been like that. but for some reason it has improving alot the last 1-2 weeks. It may or may not "always" have been like this, but it has been as long as I've been here. And I can't say I've seen any difference, one way or the other, in the last week or two. As Jikrantz says: a mystery. Here's another. I use MS Internet Exploiter 5.16 on a Mac running OS 9.1, and the forum seems incapable of "remembering" me. Each time I log in, the checkbox for "Remember Me?" is checked (by default), but I always have to log in manually anyway. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 11, 2004 Author Posted June 11, 2004 I found a topic related to all these problems, http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...?showtopic=6592 Wonders if the looking for a new forum is still in progress... Quote
Deverill Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Thomas, I am on another site that uses this software and they are asking the same questions lately. I wonder if this version or maybe a few versions of the forum software is broken. Quote
