JDanniel Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Hi everyone. A very basic question about setting up an e-commerce shopping cart account for my web site: Forgive the ignorance, but do I have to apply to be a credit card merchant to use this tool, or is there a feature in the software that automatically processes the sale? Is E-Commerce PayPal-compatible? Can I use PayPal with the shopping cart as a means of customer payment? Where would be the best source of information regarding setting up such a shopping cart? Thanks everyone. Jd PS: I'd prefer to use PayPal, for simplicity's sake, and because we aren't talking major purchasing expenditures. I know some people aren't comfortable with PayPal, though, so I'm just trying to explore other options. Quote
natimage Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Hi Jd. I can give you a little info. until someone more informed comes along!! do I have to apply to be a credit card merchant to use this tool, or is there a feature in the software that automatically processes the saleThere are "package" deals out there that include the shopping cart and everything else you need for an e-commerce site. You can find such places simply by doing a google search for "ecommerce" or other terms such as "shopping cart, payment gateway, merchant accounts". Most shopping carts alone do not come with everything that is needed to get your e-commerce site up and going. Check out the Running Your Online Business Forum here at TCH. I gained lots of info. from there! Is E-Commerce PayPal-compatible? Can I use PayPal with the shopping cart as a means of customer payment? If you are speaking of PDG E-Commerce software specifically, it looks like you can use Paypal with that cart. I believe that most carts would allow you to use Paypal if that is your choice. Good luck on your site!! Quote
JDanniel Posted May 4, 2004 Author Posted May 4, 2004 Thanks for replying. I found that other forum moments after posting my note. Jd Quote
ThumpAZ Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 One thing to note with PayPal is this: If you plan to accept CC payments through paypal, you have to sign up for a different type of acct. Check into that as well. The CC fees are more than what you find with a normal merchant account through the bank, but are not as harsh of agreement terms. All in all, Paypal CC acceptance is still easier than a Merchant Acct through a bank. Quote
