joly Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 I am joining your hosting. I have started a website in Frontpage 2003. I quickly read thru your page on Frontpage and that scared me a bit. As you can tell I'm new to this. I had planned on publishing to the web via the instructions but your info on Frontpage makes it seems hard and that alot of things won't work. I guess my basic questions are: My site will have about 5 pages, which includes some pics, animated graphics, visitor counter and text & background. (Not real fancy as this is my first) Would I be better off building it a different way than Frontpage? I also had hopes of sub domains somewhere down the road. Is it too difficult for a newby to use Frontpage? Should I look to another option and just put up a temp page "Under Construction" and start over a different way? Thanks for any input! Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 (edited) Hi Joly, Although I am no fan of Frontpage you shouldn't have any problems using it to create your web pages and uploading them. If you intend to publish direct from Frontpage you just need to make sure the Frontpage extensions are installed in cPanel. I don't think they are installed by default, and it's a simple click in cPanel to install them. If all else fails, you could always publish your pages to a folder on your own computer and FTP them up to the server. The extensions would still need to be installed on your site if you intend to use any Frontpage specific functions (bots I think they are called). There are users here that use Frontpage to do their sites if you get stuck. Edited April 28, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
joly Posted April 28, 2004 Author Posted April 28, 2004 Thanks Bruce! I was really worried after reading the page on Frontpage. I may go ahead with it and see if it works out ok. If it doesn't maybe I will need to look into another way of creating a website....back to looking for info and any suggestions welcomed! Thanks! Quote
kajoiner Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 I am using Frontpage without any problems. The instructions with Frontpage work as long as the frontpage extensions are installed. Don't worry. My wife uses frontpage with TCH and if she can do it without problems, anyone can. Not to speak bad of my wife, but she is far from a computer expert. If you need help with Frontpage, let me know and I can help walk you through it. Quote
joly Posted April 28, 2004 Author Posted April 28, 2004 You've really calmed my fears about Frontpage! Whew!!! I was near panic a bit ago. Its just a personal site but my first. I'm in the same position as your wife on expertise. I appreciate it so much!!! Thank you! Quote
TCH-Don Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 If you haven't already look at a tutorial by one of our family members, from the help page. Nat did an excellant job of explaining FrontPage Quote
TCH-Rob Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 I have used FP here as well before I decided to move on to something a bit more in tune with what I wanted. You may as well make it in FP, learn what it can do for you and go from there. You will find you are never done with your site, it will continually evolve and you may move to other publishing/design methods. You may also find FP does everything you need it to for as long as you have your site. We always have family willing to help as well. Quote
joly Posted April 28, 2004 Author Posted April 28, 2004 I can already tell I'm going to love it here! Everyone is the best! So very helpful and knowledgable! Tonight I'm going to read thru the link above for FP. I am so very happy I made the right choice for my website host! Quote
TCH-Don Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 If you need anything else just ask and post in introductions for your warm welcome Quote
joly Posted April 29, 2004 Author Posted April 29, 2004 I am so excited. I got home, made an "under construction" page and uploaded it. Took a couple tries (my fault the first time) and ta da! Its up! This is a major victory for me being new to all this. So I will continue to create my website in Frontpage and hope it all goes well like this temporary page did! I cannot thank you all enough for your help! I know I've made the right choice for a host and plan to be here a very very long time and will pass the word around to all my friends! You're all the best and I'm happy to be a part of this. Now I must go post to the Introductions! Joly www.my-birman-noelle.com Quote
