harryrr48 Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 this is one of the best hosting sites I've found and I've been through a bunch! One thing that happen to me at the last hosting site that I was at, was that I was hacked, I check my site two times a week, and the other week I tried to log on and my password would not work, so I went to the site and it had a picture of one of the guys that got kill in middle east, I was really upset and tried to get my hosting company to do somthing to reboot, reformat anything to get my site back, but you know I still haven't heard from them and it's been almost a week, have left number of tickets no response. To make a long story short how do you go about keeping this from happening again any suggestion would greatly, greatly appreated. Also, from what I have read on the net is that some hacker's can come through the Mysql is this true? Thanks Quote
TCH-Sales Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 The best tips I can give you would be: Have a password that is a mix of random letters and number, if your password is "crayon" chances are somebody has a better chance at figuring it out and getting in if they wanted to. Keep a version of your web site on your home or office computer. Just in case the worst might happen, you can just upload again. Also, Cpanel comes with a backup utility as well. Hope this helps! Thanks I'll do that from now on. Should I change my password often? say about every month. Quote
TCH-Don Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 If you have trouble remembering a good password the help site > freebies has a link to a password keeper called any password. Encrypted and easy to use, will make it easier for you to use a hard to remember password and even generate one for you with numbers and upper and lower case letters. You can even add the login and URL to open a site. Such as your secure cpanel so you click on the URL icon to open https://server?.totalchoicehosting.com:2083 then you can copy and paste the login and password to the login box with a few mouse clicks. For something as valuable as your cpanel you need to use a very hard password. Quote

I was using notepad to keep my passwords, but this little program is one of the best. Thanks again and I am so glad that I found this site. Harry... Quote

Deverill Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 There is a much more in-depth thread about Hacking and Security already in the forums. Read through that for more ideas. Quote
