erisande Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 I checked over a friend's computer. They said they couldn't do anything with it. After booting the computer (WinME) I tried to hit the START button. It stayed depressed, but no menu came up. I could double click on MY Computer and (here is where it get strange), it said the options weren't allowing ActiveX. I clicked the OK button, and then the window had a marquee go by underneath the menus. It said "Finalizing Installation". It went across twice and disappeared. The computer still was unresponsive. Any thoughts, ideas? I will keep you posted of any findings if they are a bad thing. It's always good to keep others aware, eh? Quote
Deverill Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 Try booting in safe mode. This will eliminate a lot of possibilities. (I think ME has safe mode.) Anyway, if you can it will prevent a lot of things from loading up at first. If that works put Stinger on a floppy on another PC and load it on this one. (Google "Stinger.exe") This is the best-fast-small-most popular-recent virus checker around and gets most of the "biggies". After that get a full blown package if you think it's a virus. There are free ones like AVG from grisoft.com which people swear by. This will get you started down the right path. If you can get anything like a stable system make sure you back up everything you can if it's not already done. Hope it helps! Quote
