Hi All!!

I woke up this morning to a mailbox full of spam. It had been getting worse and worse, but this morning was awful. So, I have decided that it's time to invest in a good anti spam software (that won't break the very small piggy bank).

I am just wondering if anyone has found a program that they really like or tried one that they really didn't like. I am not a huge fan of Spam Assassin, so I'm looking for something that works a bit better and with less interaction from me. In checking the net, I have found that the reviews are all over the place on the various BIG guns like Spamkiller and Norton AntiSpam.

Ok.. Enough babble. I would just appreciate any input anyone can share.

Thanks!!

Gary

Check out K9 found at keir.net/k9.html (free)

I have been using it for about eight months now and it's catching 98.9% of all the SPAM I get.

Bruce,

Thanks for moving this to a better forum. Hopefully I will get some good results.

I'm not sure K9 will work well for me. I guess I should have added that I am looking for something to remove it directly from the server. I have about 6 accounts that my family uses and we check it from many different locations, including Horde.

I will look at it further. Perhaps I have not fully realized it's potential.

Again, I really appreciate evreyones help!! Thumbs Up

What would people advise for server-side filtering? I still haven't figured out how to use SpamAssasin, but I think that it would be worth my time. I'm moving all my family's email accounts from our ISP to my tangentidea.net server, and we depend on Earthlink for catching the large majority of our spam. Earthlink is very nice in that regard -- it nails close to 95% of the spam.

man...this reminds me...I Just checked my primary email account today which I don't use, after like 6 months...and I had over 800 spam emails...this is crazy.. I can't believe how much spam is floating around out there.... Is there any way to delete my primary email account from cpanel....its just a waste of resources for bots to be spamming that account....especially considering I did not use that email once anywhere....

Your default e-mail is your catch all address.

Any e-mail sent to your domain

that is not addressed to an account you have created

will be forwarded to your default account.

This can be helpful as well as pain.

Pain as in spam addressed to anything at your site.

Helpful as in you can give out an address on the fly that you make up

to use to register for something without giving out an address you normally use.

Later you can forward it to :blackhole: if you get spam from it.

Yes, you can :blackhole: your primary e-mail account

so only accounts you create will get e-mail

Please note, however, that if you blackhole your primary account, you may not get some valid emails.

Cronjobs, for example, will send mail to your primary account by default. If you use cronjobs, make sure to set them to email another account on failure in those cases.
