derricklo Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 Hi, I would like to know more about the services at TCH: 1) How do we transfer an existing web-site to TCH? The domain name has already been paid for the next 2 years. We need to re-design the web-site from static to dynamic using PHP and MySQL. 2) Does TCH allows the user to set crontab and chown? Is the PHP "Safe mode" ON or OFF? 3) We also have a project to implement 2 new web-sites. What is the most cost-effective / sensible way to do this? Buy individual web-hosting plans for each of the 3 sites, get a reseller program, or other suggestions? 4) We need to implement the Mambo content management system (CMS), together with the phpBB forum. Anyone on TCH have done this? How easy or difficult to do this? 5) In terms of ease of implementation and performance, what are the CMS that most users implement on TCH? Thanks in advance, Derrick Quote
HCSuperStores Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 Hi! I'm a customer (reseller package) and I'll answer what I can for you and let a TCH tech answer the rest. 1) You are responsible for transfering your site generally. If you have access you can change your DNS information to the TCH servers, or you can transfer your domain over for $10.95 and get 1 year added on to your domain name life. There may be something that can be done for those who are already on cPanel type of packages though as far as transfering your site goes. 2) You can set up cron jobs through Cpanel. They use PHP, but not sure about the mode. 3) The reseller plan lets you set up your own plans as needed. I would suggest determining the amount of space you need, then setting these up in a reseller package that is large enough to handle your current and future needs. I have a number of different clients and the reseller plan has been absolutely awesome! 4) ??? not sure. 5) CMS ??? (C Management System ???) Err ... a REAL TCH-Tech will be along shortly ... One thing you will love about TCH is service! The servers are up 99.9% ... and then some. If they are down for a few minutes, the TCH staff is usually on it within 2-3 minutes to get things fixed. Rock solid performance and service. One of the best decisions I've made in my web-hosting/design business! Good luck to you! Quote
TCH-Rob Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 1) I agree with HC 2) Safe Mode is off 3) I would use the reseller plans 4) I cant answer this question, I have never tried it 5) I believe most of our users are running Movable Type as their Content Management System Quote
derricklo Posted March 21, 2004 Author Posted March 21, 2004 Hi All, Thanks for all your replies, they are very helpful. It's always good to have more choices Do you have some links to see web-sites using the Movable Type CMS? Hi HC, I posted in the Reseller forum after I found that forum later, not sure if I should post it there in the first place... Anyway, my post has been moved to Pre-Sales. Thanks for your info. Quote
LisaJill Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 I am running MT as a cms, but its a personal site. http://www.lisa-jill.com the entire site is controlled by MT, and is fairly customized on the back-end. I have put up a colophon so that people know how I'm doing things, if that helps. =) About phpbb - you can install this straight from cpanel, easy and painless. After looking at the Mambo requirements PHP 4.2.x or above – http://www.php.net (There are known problems when using PHP 4.2.2, please try to avoid using this version of PHP)My SQL 3.23.x or above – http://www.mysql.com Apache 1.13.19 or above – http://www.apache.org You must ensure that you have My SQL and Zlib support built into your PHP. I believe that you should be ok. The only item I'm I'm not 100% sure of is the zlib support - but my cpanel has 3 zlib::compress modules listed, so I think you're good to go. According to the stats in my cpanel, the version numbers should be fine for Mambo. (php 4.3.3 and mysql 4.0.18-standard and apache 1.3.29) I'm on server60, so I'm not sure how much divergence there is in this. A tech support type can answer that. =) You'll have to install Mambo on your own, as its not a cpanel install, but looks ok from what I read. Hope that helps, yell if ya have more questions! Quote
gaberville Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 I use php-nuke for my cms with no problem, I'm sure you will be fine with Mambo. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 I have never used mambo, but you might want to check out this post http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...c=7927&hl=mambo Quote
