chazmoid Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Hi I'm trying to install oscommerce, and it's asking for the address of my database server. I've uploaded the sample database from oscommerce's installation using the web interface in cpanel, but I don't know where it lives on the server... Any help would really be appreciated, Thanks! MikeJ Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 The address of the server should be "localhost". Quote
chazmoid Posted March 9, 2004 Author Posted March 9, 2004 Tried that, but I'm getting: "Access denied for user: 'accountname_username@localhost' to database 'accountname_databasename' Please click on the Back button below to review your database server settings." I've tried various combos of the above informaton, and I wrote down the db password, so I'm not sure what gives... although I'm sure it's a silly newbie thing. For clarity's sake, I'm on step two of the install, and the caption of the field reads: "Database server: ______ Hostame or IP-address of the database server The database server can be in the form of a hostname, such as db1.myserver.com, or as an IP-address, such as 192.168.0.1" Quote
borfast Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 chazmoid, have you changed any permissions for that database? Quote
MikeJ Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Also, when you create a database there are three steps (some people forget the third). Create the database Create the user Add the user to the database Quote
chazmoid Posted March 10, 2004 Author Posted March 10, 2004 Still no joy I've followed the instructions at: http://wiki.oscommerce.com/docsInstallNew But I'm still getting the same failure message. It seems like the passwoord that I entered when I created the database isn't working. Quote
TCH-Andy Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Have you tried resetting the password for that user in the database Quote
chazmoid Posted March 10, 2004 Author Posted March 10, 2004 Yup I've even dumped the database and user and started from scratch a couple of times. Thanks for the suggestion, though. The only permissions I've changed are on the two config files as per the install instructions. Quote
chazmoid Posted March 10, 2004 Author Posted March 10, 2004 Problem solved! Not gonna say, 'cause I was being stupid... Thumbs Up Rock Sign Quote
