HCSuperStores Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Hello fellow TCH friends. Some day my previous hosting company may ask "Why did you switch to someone else?" My thought may be "Do you want that list alphabetically or in order of importance?". Seriously, service is a big issue, especially among hosting companies. That is why we all like it here. However, if you were ever pondering the thought of leaving TCH for another hosting company (kill yourself first) here is an actual transcript of a conversation that JUST happened. Sorry to say, but I'm still moving clients so I still have an active account on my old host. This is how things went: *********************************** 03/09/2004 12:39:47 Stephen pulled visitor 03/09/2004 12:39:52 Stephen: Hello and welcome to XXXXXXX Webhosting! I am your Live Chat operator Stephen. How may I help you today? 03/09/2004 12:40:09 Bill: For some reason I can't get into my accout. I have not changed my password. My account is XXXXXXXX. 03/09/2004 12:40:23 Stephen: Please wait for a while. 03/09/2004 12:41:24 Stephen: What password do you use? 03/09/2004 12:41:36 Bill: XXXXXXX 03/09/2004 12:41:47 Bill: But normally I don't even type it. 03/09/2004 12:41:58 Bill: I have it saved in my windows passwords. 03/09/2004 12:42:01 Bill: It comes up automatically. 03/09/2004 12:42:08 Bill: But it wasn't working. 03/09/2004 12:42:17 Bill: This is not the first time this has happened. 03/09/2004 12:42:28 Stephen: This is not the valid password. 03/09/2004 12:42:43 Bill: ??? 03/09/2004 12:43:02 Bill: Yes it is. 03/09/2004 12:43:13 Stephen: Would you like me to send you the proper one at this e-mail XXXXXXXXXX? 03/09/2004 12:43:25 Bill: What's going on? Yes. send me that please. 03/09/2004 12:44:43 Stephen: After your account had been transferred to the new server the password was reset. You should have received an e-mail, notifying you about that. 03/09/2004 12:45:10 Bill: I thought I was on the new server? 03/09/2004 12:45:33 Bill: I've only had this account for a couple of months and it was transfered from an old server. 03/09/2004 12:46:17 Stephen: Yes, that is right. And that is why your password has been reset. 03/09/2004 12:46:58 Bill: Noo .. My account was already set up. A transfer was not necessary. 03/09/2004 12:47:08 Bill: I was already on the new server 2 months ago. 03/09/2004 12:47:30 Bill: There was no reason to transfer me again (in the last couple of weeks at least) because I was already transfered. 03/09/2004 12:47:44 Bill: Why reset my password if I was already there? 03/09/2004 12:49:25 Stephen: Your previous username was YYYYYYYY, right? 03/09/2004 12:49:29 Bill: I was just in my new account on the 4th of March and set up a new e-mail account. 03/09/2004 12:49:58 Bill: Yes, my previouis one. But the new account was set up under XXXXXXXX and that is where I have been working out of for 2 months now. 03/09/2004 12:52:11 Stephen: Have you received the e-mail with the password? 03/09/2004 12:52:19 Stephen: I have just sent it. 03/09/2004 12:52:25 Bill: No, not yet. 03/09/2004 12:52:47 Bill: Just got it. 03/09/2004 12:54:14 Bill: I'm in under www.XXXXXXXXX.com, where I was before. I'm still very confused why my password was reset. Is there another reason why a password would be reset? 03/09/2004 12:54:57 Stephen: No, there isn't. 03/09/2004 12:55:16 Bill: Did my account actually move over the last few days then? 03/09/2004 12:56:27 Stephen: Not in the last few days. 03/09/2004 12:56:51 Bill: Then why would my password be reset? 03/09/2004 12:57:14 Bill: I was in there on the 4th, just 5 days ago. 03/09/2004 12:57:58 Stephen: Since we are transferring all our clients to the new server there may have been some problem. Please do not worry about that. 03/09/2004 12:58:15 Stephen: You can change the password to whatever you need now. 03/09/2004 12:58:17 Bill: Easy for you to say. 03/09/2004 12:58:31 Bill: I did. 03/09/2004 12:59:15 Bill: I guess I'm all set. Not very happy and still concerned ... but I don't think that continuing this conversation will yield any further answers. Am I right? 03/09/2004 13:00:58 Stephen: Since you have set your password I do not see any problems now. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please notify me if there are any other issues that you want to be resolved. 03/09/2004 13:01:11 Bill: k ********************************* By the way .... THANK YOU TCH!!!!! Quote
DarqFlare Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 lol... I think it would be funny if somebody here at TCH compiled a repository of "bad" conversations with other webhosts, just to see the kinds of funny things that happen out there... Quote
scotttyz Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 Hey Bill, sounds exactly like my old webhost, wonder if we were at the same company?? LMAO Quote
schussat Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 I think it would be funny if somebody here at TCH compiled a repository of "bad" conversations with other webhosts, just to see the kinds of funny things that happen out there... You know, my previous host wasn't at all bad -- just boring, less full-featured, and more expensive! The host before that, though. Boy. I can't say I had a single negative conversation with them, ever. They were the pinnacle of courtesy and professionalism, right up until they went bankrupt and disappeared in the aether without so much as a notification email. Yeah, TCH rules. Quote
stevevan Posted March 9, 2004 Posted March 9, 2004 At least you were able to TALK to your old host! Rock Sign Quote
Guest LightKeeper Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 LoL... All the ones I tried after I left TCH were that way. Rock Sign Quote
Alan Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Well everyone can X Yahoo! Out of the good hosting book They are a very BAD company lol. $29.99 for less than you can get most of the other places? LOL Quote
scotttyz Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 I have no idea why I thought this would be any different, but I CANT EVEN GET MY OLD HOST to cancel my account. You would think they would be ready to get me off their backs, but I guess not. For the second time in two days I have been told that: Day1 From a random CSR: "CSR-Thisperson1 has the request in front of them and is processing it now" Day2 From a different CSR: "CSR-Thisperson1 has the request in front of them and is processing it now" Now I lag sometimes, but is CSR-Thisperson1 breathing? I mean he has had the same request in front of him for TWO DAYS! Rock Sign blue domino does not Rock Sign I will edit post when my account is finally closed! I think next time I will just call the VP at coffee cup, he runs Blue Domino, I imagine he has all the time in the world to talk to 1 customer that is trying to quit!! Quote
scotttyz Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Well it looks like we finally are rid of my old host. Now you must know how I am sure of this, it is funny: We have now recieved a credit email from the billing end of the compnay. I was told that the support end sent out 2 (yes two) emails today regarding our cancelation, BUT they are still having so many problems with thier own email that we have not received either emails (been almost 8 hours). Time for a beer! Rock Sign Quote
HCSuperStores Posted March 10, 2004 Author Posted March 10, 2004 It's just amazing how many companies out there can do business, and stay in business, with crappy services like we've expereinced. I used to always have these "unexplained" down times that usually lasted for 10-20 minutes. It was almost a daily thing. Used to drive me nuts. I'm happy that I have a place to put my clients that I can depend on now. Quote
TangentIdea Posted March 11, 2004 Posted March 11, 2004 I had an absolutely awful experience with one webhost once. The support people were both incompetent and rude. (One without the other is bad enough -- combined, it's a deadly combination.) Their support staff hardly knew how to run their own system. When I was having a problem with cPanel (it wouldn't work well on my old computer), they said, you need to get DSL and you need to get a new computer (but not a Mac, because, "well, Macs have serious flaws" Mad!!! ). One day, we received an email which appeared to be from an old customer of theirs who wanted information on how to sign up again. Well, I was just getting over the "serious flaws" incident, and I was still pretty ticked. I hit "Reply All," sending it to the intended inbox and this person -- I flamed the hosting company pretty nastily. Weeeell... next thing I know, our account is suspended. Little did I know, the email address that this person sent his message to was a MAILING LIST FOR ALL OF THE COMPANY'S SUBSCRIBERS! My flame email hit that same mailing list. Whoops. The hosting company threatened legal action, but fortunately, the company president is a much better man than I and let me go. Still, that was a baaaad idea on my part. Ain't doin that again. So anyway... heh, after that, anything looks good. But yeah, I've been pretty happy with TCH so far. The Reseller account is worth its weight in gold. (I don't know how much it weighs, but... oh, you get my point...) No, I don't think it'd be a good idea to compile bad stories of other companies. It cheapens TCH's image. Their reputation will get around. -Ryan Quote
