Deno Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 Hi, I run the site starryconstellation.com, and I'm wondering... how do I log on to my FTP server so I can upload files? The reason why I ask this, is because I recently formatted my computer, and I kinda forgot how to logon. When I try to logon again to my FTP client, it's not letting me log on. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Deno. Quote
mike Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 If your user name is say... goldie, then you have to use goldie@yoursite.com as the login. I know I forgot that. my login was "free" and that is all I put. Remembered that I had to login as: free@mysite.com hope that helps. Also are you using something like WS-FTP, CUTE FTP, or some other ftp software? Quote
Deno Posted March 19, 2004 Author Posted March 19, 2004 I usually use WS-FTP or the "My Network Places" on WinXP. What's the FTP address I use to logon? Quote
LisaJill Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 just your domain name should work - i use lisa-jill.com to logon to my ftp. I'd suggest ws_ftp over the network connections thing in windows - more control and works better. =) Quote
Deno Posted March 19, 2004 Author Posted March 19, 2004 It's not working... so, for my address, it would be starryconstellation.com and my user name is starryc and enter my password... right? Quote
LisaJill Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 When you say it's not working, what do you mean? Also, are you using the basic ftp or did you set up a special one in cpanel? What program did you decide to go with for ftp? Also, try www.starryconstellation.com - might be better luck with that. Quote
Deno Posted March 19, 2004 Author Posted March 19, 2004 What I mean is that it's not connecting.... btw, thanks for your fast replies! :-D Quote
MikeJ Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 Use starryconstellation.com, or ftp.starryconstellation.com as your ftp address (I checked both, they are pointing to your server properly). Your username and password will be the same as what you use to login to cPanel. Quote
LisaJill Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 My pleasure - is it throwing a password error or just timing out? Need to know why it's not connecting to try to fix it. =) I tried ftping to www.starryconstellation.com and it worked for the public ftp - so is it throwing an authentication error? Id/password, that is? =) Quote
Deno Posted March 19, 2004 Author Posted March 19, 2004 I think it's a connection time out. I used the same login/password for my cpanel and it worked fine. Anywhol, thanks again for your help! really appreciate it! Quote
LisaJill Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 (edited) Deno, go into your web-browser and type into the location bar: ftp://starryconstellation.com also, confirm if you can get to http://www.starryconstellation.com - if you can get to that you should be able to get to the other. then come back here and let me know what happens next, in detail =) We'll go from there! Mmm, after re-reading I thinkyou got it working? =) Edited March 19, 2004 by Lisa Quote
LisaJill Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 connection timed out to which url? the website or the ftp? also can you clarify - were you able to get access or are you still struggling? If you are able to gain access it may not be worth troubleshooting this. =) Quote
LisaJill Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 so you are still unable to ftp and update files? Or have you found a way around it? Because if you can ftp in some way, then it might not be of consequence =) Quote
TCH-Rob Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 As a temporary solution you can use the File Manager in cPanel to upload files as well. The drawback is that you can only do a few files at a time and not entire directories. Quote
