amansker Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 A distant client (cannot access machine) is trying to pick up mail with her Mac / OS10 / Mail (built in mail client?) / ISP=AOL. She started having problems with SMTP and now POP. For some time she was picking up mail fine - cannot be for certain that she ever sent OK. She gets "pw not accepted." We turned on server authentication, triple checked all settings and changed the pw. I can use her POP/SMTP from my XP/Outlook machine - no problems. Any insight is appreciated. Not sure if it is AOL, her local machine or what. Any previous problems with AOL or Macs? Quote
andypeat Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 Just so you know - I have got the mac mail working with POP. There was (and I think stil is) a problem with my domain name propogation, but if I point it to the IP address it works. I also got the password error but it cleared it self and has never come back. Hope you get it fixed. Andy Quote
amansker Posted February 16, 2004 Author Posted February 16, 2004 Thanks. I'll struggle forward . . . Quote
amansker Posted February 18, 2004 Author Posted February 18, 2004 SOLUTION: Changing the SMTP port to 26 on the tch account worked. AOL was routing SMTP requests to port 25 through their server. Quote
ThumpAZ Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 What about the POP side of things? Is that working now as well? Quote
