borfast Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 Has anyone installed AWStats manually on a shared server? I'm trying to install it on a client's website but I'm not being successful. Can anyone tell me where to find a step-by-step guide, or something like that? AWStats documentation is not enough, their installation guide is quite incomplete and mostly geared towards those who have root access on the server, unfortunately Thanks in advance. Quote
btrfld Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 This may not be sufficient for your needs, but there is a way to give your client access to their AWStats (the ones that are already there) with PW protection and without cPanel access. TCH Help Site Statistics page I've used it on my clients' sites, and it works very well. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 Check out this thread Raul http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...wtopic=6486&hl= I use that to allow potential sponsors to check out my stats without having to give them access to my cpanel Quote
borfast Posted February 13, 2004 Author Posted February 13, 2004 Thanks guys but that's not what I need - sorry, I forgot to mention one important point. I did search TCH forums but I didn't find anything about what I need. I need to install AWStats on a client's site that doesn't have cPanel. I'm counting on bringing them over to TCH when their current hosting contract ends but one of the things I need to do is install AWStats so I can show them the real (or as close as possible) number of visits to the website and some other statistics, so they finally see their host simply sucks! Anyway, If someone has some links or know how to do it, I'd really appreciate it! Quote
MikeJ Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 I did run across this in a quick search, that may be of help. Looks like the instructions would be doable even without shell access with some minor changes in the method. Just replace 'admin' with the user's account login. Quote
borfast Posted February 13, 2004 Author Posted February 13, 2004 Thanks, Mike. Seems like I was doing everything right but it still doesn't work I'll try to follow those steps one-by-one and see where I failed when using my approach. Thanks again! Quote
