shammer Posted February 8, 2003 Posted February 8, 2003 I opened a helpdesk ticket but my last issue was solved here, thanks again lstover, so I figured I would ask here also. On my primary email address I can send email but never receive email on that account. I send emails to it from 3 different sources and never receive the messages. I created another account and that one sends and receives lighting fast. Any ideas? Quote
KevinW Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 Make sure you have your email address 'name' correct. For your main, primary account, it should be just the name (do not append the @yoursite.com). For all other users your create, their email address is user@yoursite.com BTW, what is your domain name? -kw Quote
shammer Posted February 9, 2003 Author Posted February 9, 2003 my domain name is cyberhigh.net and I have that set right. What I mean is that email that is sent to jlemieux@cyberhigh.net is never placed in the inbox. I have checked it using outlook express and webmail and it just doesn't show up. I actually have 2 other email addresses now and both of them can send and receive email just fine but anything sent to jlemieux@cyberhigh.net never shows up. Quote
Lianna Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 Shammer, Go check in cpanel that you don't have a Forwarder set up for that address. If they aren't in the inbox, they've gone somewhere....if you have a forwarder in place that would explain it. Lianna *EDIT* I just looked at your cpanel and there is no forward. Forget that idea. I did notice that you have spam assassin enabled. Have you by chance disabled spam assassin and tried to receive mail? Lianna Quote
shammer Posted February 9, 2003 Author Posted February 9, 2003 lstover, it wasn't the spam killer, it was that I had the unknown recipient set to :blackhole: but why does email that is going to my main account get thrown out like an unknown recipient? Quote
shammer Posted February 9, 2003 Author Posted February 9, 2003 ok, more info now. If I create a new account called junk@cyberhigh.net and route change it so that all unknown mail is sent to junk@cyberhigh.net all the email from jlemieux@cyberhigh.net is also sent to junk@cyberhigh.net. There has to be a way to fix this so I can use my main account and not have to have all the spam sent to unknown recipients put in my inbox. Quote
KevinW Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 Shammer, One more time -- just to be sure -- verify what you use to setup your email client software: for your main email address, the account name (userid) should be: jlemieux for your other email address, the account name should be: junk@cyberhigh.net -kw Quote
Lianna Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 Ok, that was good testing! I can tell you that it should not be acting like that. I easily receive all of my main account mail and :blackhole: the misadressed mail. I logged into your cpanel and saw that result repeated. Tomorrow morning, I'll follow up on it myself. Ok? Lianna Quote
shammer Posted February 9, 2003 Author Posted February 9, 2003 KW, it is setup this way. I have tested this both with the webmail and outlook express/Outlook. Basically, here is my issue. In cpanel, under email group, click on default address. This should be where you change the setting for "All unrouted mail for will be sent to" but when I set this to :blackhole: of :fail: it will also discard any email I get that is routed to jlemieux@cyberhigh.net. I should be able to set this so that when someone sends an email to an unknownaddress@cyberhigh.net it is discarded or returned as undeliverable. For some reason my main email account which is jlemieux@cyberhigh.net will also suffer these same results when I do this. Is there any way around this? Perhaps having a different email address as the main one for my account??? Quote
shammer Posted February 9, 2003 Author Posted February 9, 2003 Lianna, you replied just as I was. Thank you, when you get to it I would appreciate it. I swear this place is the best host I have used. There will always be little problems but you guys go above and beyond to help. I really appreciate it. Quote
Lianna Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 No problem. I think the issue is indeed a little deeper than first imagined... If you don't mind, I am going to try a couple of tests in the morning and see if I can isolate it. Please let your other email account folks know that things might get a little wacky in the morning ok? I'll be back to you as soon as I can either get it sorted out or escalate it. Lianna Quote
shammer Posted February 9, 2003 Author Posted February 9, 2003 Sounds good. I'll let them know and wait to hear from you. Quote
TCH-Alan Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 I have looked at your account and found that there is no mail box created for 'jlemieux@cyberhigh.net'. This means that any e-mail sent tp 'jlemieux@cyberhigh.net' will go to your main account which is set to 'fail'. The main account is 'ANYTHING@cyberhigh.net'. I think there was just some confusion with the main account and your other email accounts. To solve your problem, simply create a new e-mail account for 'jlemieux@cyberhigh.net' in "Manage Accounts > Add Account" section. Then login to the POP account to collect the e-mails sent to that address. Regards, Alan Quote
Lianna Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 Alan rocks! So for future reference everbody: To receive mail via the main account, if the default is set to either :fail: or :blackhole:, you must have an account created for the main address OR a forward in place for that name. Wow, I learn something new everyday. Shammer thanks for keeping this alive to resolution. Lianna Quote
shammer Posted February 9, 2003 Author Posted February 9, 2003 Thanks to both of you. It never occured to me to even try that. Quote
KevinW Posted February 10, 2003 Posted February 10, 2003 I'm glad it got resolved. That's why I kept asking you to confirm the email addresses. However, I thought your problem was on the client end, but it holds equally well to the server end! My motto is: there's always something new to learn. -kw Quote
