image file protection

now here's my question, if I want to save the image of the 68 Nova from that site of course I right-click but then I notice that the image is redirected to an image file title "blank.gif". And it's not the image file of the Nova. How do they do that? What I mean is how do they re-direct the image to something else when someone right-clicks?

 

I mean I know how to go around that by just looking in the source and finding the correct image url to save the pic. I'm just asking this because I would love to incorporate something exactly like that on my images when my site is launched. Can someone give me some info please...

You can also get around it by just copying the image from the cache. People who are that protective of their images shouldn't post them on free sites on the internet.

I'm sure someone will come along with drm for images, and I'm sure someone else will come up with a way around it. Sometimes I wonder what kind of world we are creating if its going to come down to everytime you click on a piece of media it takes you to a page with a place to put your visa number.

 

My site has close to a hundred images, I have no problem if someone wants them for there personal use, post them on another site and I might complain.

sol3wgc: I totally understand your point, but see a friend of mine has a similar site like mine and what has happened is some other webmaster has created a similar site like his with all of his images on it. So this person took my friends images from his site and posted them all on his own site. Now that would really get me mad.

 

I know you really can't stop anyone from getting your images by a click of the button. But there's always a way to give them maybe a few obstacles and make it a little much harder for them.

I didn't browse the site, but one way that you can do this is to have the original image set as the background in a table cell, then insert a blank image into the cell. Then, when someone right clicks, they get the blank image. I'm sure there are other ways to do this as well, using layers and such.
