I'm looking for a new reliable host and was you were reccomended, but I want to know can I host files?

These files are NOT warez files but PC driver files (graphic cards and chipset drivers to be more acurate). Would this be OK as I don't want to violate any of your terms or get you into trouble :).

Well thanx in advance....

From the Acceptable Use Policy of TotalChoice Hosting:

TotalChoice Hosting accounts operate on shared resources. Excessive use or abuse of these shared network resources by one customer may have a negative impact on all other customers. Misuse of network resources in a manner which impairs network performance is prohibited by this policy and may result in termination or suspension of your account without notice.

You are prohibited from excessive consumption of resources, including CPU time, memory, disk space and session time. You may not use resource-intensive programs which negatively impact other customers or the performance of TotalChoice Hosting systems or Hosting. TotalChoice Hosting reserves the right to terminate or limit such activities.

In this spirit, evaluate your use of the server. As a rule, the servers are not to be used as file servers. However storage of a few files, download accessibility of those files and bandwidth consumption/server systems usage is allowed to the point that you remain within this AUP.

TotalChoice Hosting reserves the right to evaluate and/or change this AUP at any time.

If you can provide more details about the use/purpose, expected space and bandwidth consumption of your needs, we can further clarify our position for your particular situation.

Thanks.

HeadGuru: Please feel free to correct or ammend my statement here!

What I mean is just hosting the newest driver releases, the CPU time and bandwidth will always remain in the limit as these files are small and don't take long to download.

I have no intention of useing the server to store files to be used by multiple site only mine (I will be using a anti-leech program/script to ensure this).

Seeing that my site will be new to the web I don't anticipate much bandwidth use for sometime.

I think that the point is that TCH is offering Web Site Hosting, not online file storage. So, if a viable website were to offer some downloadable files as a part of the intent and purpose of the website, then it would be fine.

I have a few files on my site available for download and don't feel like I am in violation of the AUP.

Again, HeadGuru please correct me if I misunderstand the AUP or its intent!

Thats what I mean, just a few to go with the site.

Go for it, then. Golly, I have a lot of files (mostly sample scripts) available on my web sites here at TCH. By your original question, wasn't sure if the issue or concern was (a) bandwidth or (:) legal aspects.

Granted, if you signup for any web site with any web provider, you are ultimately responsible for tracking and managing your bandwidth. If you start to approach your limit, you should contact tCH to step up to the next level. Frankly, TCH's specs are quite liberal, and you should bew good to go.

On a legal side, that's up to you and the vendor whose files you are providing, but in general you should be OK.

Ok,

Sorry its been a bursy day here at TCH.

Yes you can host files for downloads as long as they are LEGAL and do not infringe on others trademarks or copyrights.

Its really fairly simple.

Thanks
