Alan Posted January 2, 2004 Posted January 2, 2004 Hello, I am planning on opening an account with you next week sometime. I just have a few small questions before I order, I have been hosting at yahoo! for a year, and I find that they are really taking the money, their pagebuilder really restricts you from being able to do anything, and the package I was using was "Standard Hosting, 100 MB of Disk Space, I dont recall the exact Data Transfer, it was around 20 MB ****I think**** So I went on to searching for a new provider, and here I am, The Site I am wanting is going to be in part for the Gaming Zone that I play on, For Help, aswell as the games I play, so you might say it is going to be a "Personal Site". Here is my few questions for you, before I sign up: 1.) Do you allow Personal Sites? 2.) Can I give subdomain/e-mail(s) out to my friends/Family? Which will link to their sites. 3.) Can I have my Pay-For-Sales and Pay-per-Click Affiliates Banners and other links on my pages? 4.) Do you allow PHP,PHP-Nuke Coding, and the use of Dreamweaver aswell as Flash? 5.) Are their **ANY** restrictions on filesize/filetype/number of files, I can upload to my site? Thanks for your time, Alan. Quote
Deverill Posted January 2, 2004 Posted January 2, 2004 1.) Do you allow Personal Sites? Absolutely! 2.) Can I give subdomain/e-mail(s) out to my friends/Family? Which will link to their sites. From the AUP: "You may not conduct hostee or offer free web hosting to people based on your subdomains. " So the answer would be no since each person would have their own web space. 3.) Can I have my Pay-For-Sales and Pay-per-Click Affiliates Banners and other links on my pages? Yes. Any legal business that does not violate the TOS or AUP (links below) are ok. Some packages are very CPU intensive, though, so we may have you stop using it if it becomes a problem on our servers but they are pretty doggone tough so it would have to be a very big or very inefficient program to do that. We usually have no problems at all. Banners and links are fine so you shouldn't have any problems with them at all. 4.) Do you allow PHP,PHP-Nuke Coding, and the use of Dreamweaver aswell as Flash? Yes to all. In fact, PHP-Nuke is one of our one-button install packages if you are starting fresh or you can transfer your existing one here if you'd rather do that. 5.) Are their **ANY** restrictions on filesize/filetype/number of files, I can upload to my site? Other than Terms of Service, Acceptable Use Policy and bandwidth/disk size limits per your package, no. Read the TOS and AUP though because we do not allow warez and some other types of files. An example of prohibited site content would be: Material which encourages the commission of a crime; or which tends to incite violence; or which tends to degrade any person or group based on sex, nationality, religion, color, age, marital status, sexual orientation, disability or political affiliation. The TOS is at http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/web-hosting-terms.html and the AUP is at http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/web-hosting-aup.html Hope to see you around! Quote
Alan Posted January 2, 2004 Author Posted January 2, 2004 Yes, I have both the TOS and AUP printed out, and in a folder, but I wanted to make sure I was reading right, and had a direct answer, so that no mistakes could be made, leaving yahoo! had taken awhile, as I had my site up and running, and they had to cancel everything out, I don't want to get my site up again and have to take it right back down in order to cancel out again, your hosting services, sound very nice. Thanks for you time, Quote
Deverill Posted January 3, 2004 Posted January 3, 2004 Sometimes a straight answer is difficult to come up with due to a lot of things but it is good if we can give one I'm happy to help - if you need anything just ask - there are some of the best website owners in the world in these forums so someone will be able to help and we all are happy to do so. Alan Posted January 3, 2004 Author Posted January 3, 2004 I don't need anything else at this time, but after Monday...Who knows, Looks like you have a new customer Quote
Deverill Posted January 3, 2004 Posted January 3, 2004 Then let me be the first to say... Welcome to the family! Quote
Deverill Posted January 3, 2004 Posted January 3, 2004 (edited) Alan, and all, I just found out that I made a mistake in one of my answers... 2.) Can I give subdomain/e-mail(s) out to my friends/Family? Which will link to their sites. From the AUP: "You may not conduct hostee or offer free web hosting to people based on your subdomains. " So the answer would be no since each person would have their own web space. The post at a Previous Post says the AUP changes to "Your subdomains are allowed to be used for any legal purpose. You may not sell the subdomain space to others, nor may you point other domain names to your subfolders. Sub-domains may not be used to host other domains" Also see This Post for even more clarification with an example. This means that you can use subdomains for friends and family as long as you are not selling space and don't point other domain names to your subdomains! Sorry for my mistake. We'll get the online AUP edited as soon as possible. Edited January 3, 2004 by TCH-Jim Quote
Alan Posted January 5, 2004 Author Posted January 5, 2004 Awesome, I am signing up on Monday , the domains sound awesome, aswell as the hosting service, Yahoo! Hosting is a pure Terror! Well, I guess if your a Company it is different since you have money to throw away but, as we are paying the hosting service, I like getting the most for my money And by the looks of the forums, aswell as the other topics all over your site, and the speed of the help that comes to everyones side when they need it . Thanks, and I am going to be glad to be part of the TCH family. And about the "Illegal" lol, I don't do anything Illegal, I am trying to get into the State Troopers School. Well thanks again and have an awesome time! Quote
Alan Posted January 5, 2004 Author Posted January 5, 2004 Sorry for my mistake. We'll get the online AUP edited as soon as possible. No need to be sorry, if you don't mistakes you would be perfect, and therefore could not be human. Quote
Alan Posted January 5, 2004 Author Posted January 5, 2004 No need to be sorry, if you don't mistakes you would be perfect, and therefore could not be human. Should be: No need to be sorry, if you don't make mistakes you would be perfect, and therefore could not be human. And as for the AUP, those types of things take time, and we all know that. Keep up the good work! Quote
