thebarricade Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 Not actually a pre-sales question, but it felt like it would fit in here... I have finally recieved my VSDL-connection at home, and is now connected at something resembling high speed, and I also have a static IP address. So my question is: Can I redirect a subdomain on my site to point to my home-IP and the webserver I have set up there? regards, Anders http://www.thebarricade.net Quote
TCH-Dick Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 Yes, you should be able to redirect a subdomain to your server at home, in cPanek it will just ask for the URL you want to reditrect to. Quote
thebarricade Posted November 22, 2003 Author Posted November 22, 2003 Dang.... I realize now, that I should have asked this too: Is this type of redirection allowed by TCH's rules? regards, Anders http://www.thebarricade.net Quote
Lianna Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 I see no reason that this form of redirection would be against any rules here. I will check into it further though with management just to confirm. Quote
TCH-Don Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 You may want to check with your provider also. Some prohibit running a web site through their connection. I know Charter will terminate any that do it. Customer may not establish a web page using a server located at Customer’s home. Better to be safe and check. Quote
Lianna Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 Good point by TCH-Don. I hadn't even thought of that. I just followed up with management on this issue and there is no issue. This sort of redirect is acceptable. Quote
TCH-Rick Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 You may need to put in a Help Desk ticket to have the IP added to the DNS Zone if you are using the domain name as a part of your home webserver. Quote
thebarricade Posted November 23, 2003 Author Posted November 23, 2003 Thanks for the heads up, ya all ! And as for my provider, there is no issue with them as long as it is a non-commercial server (otherwise I would just have to get another type of subscription from them) TCH-Rick: Could you explain that in a bit more detail please, what would it mean in reality? regards, Anders http://www.thebarricade.net Quote
joelmr Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 Is this a change in policy? I was specifically told this was not possible. See http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...t=0entry14056. Quote
Lianna Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 joelmr, I do not know of a change in policy, but I specifically asked HeadGuru on Saturday, Nov. 22 if there were any TCH issues with doing this and he said, "No." Now, I will reiterate the Acceptable Use policy: TotalChoice Hosting customers are prohibited from transmitting on or through any of TotalChoice Hosting's services, any material that is, in TotalChoice Hosting's sole discretion, unlawful, obscene, threatening, abusive, defamatory, libelous, or encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any local, state, federal or international law. Please note that a redirection of a subdomain to a home webserver does NOT preclude that home webserver content or activity from the Acceptable Use Policy!!! What ever content or activities you server from home via a TCH service are bound to the TOS and AUP of your plan here. Just so we are clear. Quote
