greatfolios sysop Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 I want to resign the domain name for another year through TCH and I have about 30 days left on the old registration. What steps do I take? Thanks, Mr. BIll Quote
JesseD Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 So your domain is currently with a different registrar, not TCH? If you're already using TCH as your registrar then I think it should renew automatically. Otherwise, transferring a domain to TCH is really easy. From the TCH homepage click the Domain Registration link, and then "Transfer Domains." It costs about $11 and that includes a one-year extension. One important thing to do before you start the transfer is to make sure you are the administrative contact for your domain and that the admin e-mail address is correct. That's accomplished by logging into the account you have with your old registrar. They have to send a message to that e-mail address to get authorization for the transfer, so it needs to be current. And if you didn't register the domain yourself but had it done indirectly by a web host, then they may have listed themselves as the admin contact instead of you. You can transfer at any point -- the one-year extension goes from the expiration date, not the transfer date, so you don't have to worry about losing time. (For example, I had about 9 months left on my domain when I transferred it to TCH, so with the extension I now have almost 2 years before it expires.) Quote
Larry Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 some domain registers wont transfer a domain that's been registered in the last 60 days, or if it's going to expire in the next 10 days (at least godaddy is like that) Quote
TCH-Rob Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 (edited) Mr. Bill, You have two choices. Renew at Domainbank where you are at for more time or go to Total Choice's Transfer page and begin the transfer to Total Choice. You need at least 10 days for everything to go smoothly. As you are the Admin contact you will be getting email confirmations from both places if you transfer. Keep an eye on your charter email for the next week or so if you transfer. One good reason for transferring here is you get an extra year so your $10.95 gets your domain until 2005. It looks like Jesse beat me to it. That will teach me to read an entire post. And I see what they are charging you over there. After you transfer here, and at their cost I am sure you will, you can renew your domain for the maximum time of 10 years for about 3 years cost over there. You need to transfer here first though. greatfolios sysop Posted November 20, 2003 Author Posted November 20, 2003 Thanks for the response, I went on to the tch site yesterday and was able to get it all set. It was easy after I figured out that I must be logged in to my account before I could finish the purchase, (I already had another tch- purchased domain name). I still have about 3 weeks before the expire date so all is good! Thanks again, Mr. BIll :Nerd: Quote
