TCH-JimE Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 Hi, Ok, i don't get this "hot link" protection. I have tried it, and it fails to work. Well it works, but the URLS its supposed to allow access too, don't work. How is it supposed to work, and whats the exact bits I am supposed to type in. E.g. I have my main domain, www.bugmansbrewery.com and my forum.bugmansbrewrey.com (sub domain) If i put hotlinking on with Http://forum.bugmansbrewery.com in it, it stops the images from appearing. I have tried various ways of doing this, but none works. Whats the trick to getting this to work? Cheers Jim Quote
Head Guru Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 Hotlinking is when another web site owner links directly to one or more of your images or multimedia files and includes it on their web page. Not only is this theft of your intellectual property, you are paying for the bandwidth used by that site. Refer to this article for more information on hotlinking. cPanel can prevent hotlinking by only allowing named sites (such as your own web site) to access files on your site. To prevent hotlinking: Click on the HotLink Preventor link in the Advanced Menu area. Enter any other addresses that you will allow to access your site other than the provided defaults in the central area. Enter the protected extensions in the Extensions to allow field. Make sure you separate each extension with a comma. Enter the address to redirect any hotlinking to in the Url to Redirect to field. Click on the button. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted January 21, 2003 Author Posted January 21, 2003 Since it does not even work with the ones that are already in there by standard, does it mean that it is broken???? Do i need to make a ticket so you guys can fiddle with it? Cheers Jim Quote
