TCH-Thomas Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 Hi all, Not always but pretty often when i publish i get this error: "Error creating directory 'HTMLobj-3117' on FTP Server at ..." The ^GEMDIR/ is in my code and all eventual additional files in holder. Why does this happen? -Thomas Quote
TCH-JimE Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 Tonsa, What package are you publishing in, are you publishing to public_html and does your cpanel username have a - in it? Jim Quote
jslagle Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 Is it always the same directory, 'HTMLobj-3117'? If so have you tried deleting the object in that directory and then reinserting? Is there something different, type, size, etc with the object in that directory? Quote
jslagle Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 Jim, that's a directory created by Cute Site Builder to hold an object such as a word file, pdf, or similar. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 10, 2003 Author Posted October 10, 2003 In this particular issue it was not when publishing on my TCH-account, but yes, it has happened here too in the public_html. Yes, Cpanel-name contains a "a", 5th letter. CSB creates this 'HTMLobj-...' automatically and unless i manually deletes it thru ftp it updates same html-obj. This happens not only in same directory, almost anywhere i publish, no matter its TCH or where ever. So i guess the answer is no, not same directory. -Thomas Quote
TCH-JimE Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 Hi, I actually meant a "-" not a "a", my fault! Sounds like its a cute site error. Jim Quote
Samrc Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 It might be related to a known issue in CSB: Check your publishing option settings. On the HTML directory tab, make sure that you do not have "save copy of exported HTML locally" checked. That option is great for previewing your site, but can interfer when sending the files to a website. When you place sound, images, etc into a webcomponent of an insert > HTML, CSB creates a new folder (HTMLobj-xxx) to hold those files. When that 'publish to local HTML directory' option is checked, CSB can not create that special HTMLobj folder on another server. Or if it has been created at some time in the past, CSB can actually remove the folder from the website, leaving the code unusable because the images/sounds, etc are missing from the site. When you get the error, please check the box to LOG ERROR. Then immediately publish again. In the lower box, CSB often gives a better explanation or an error code. Please tell us what it says so we can narrow down the problem. -Samantha Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 14, 2003 Author Posted October 14, 2003 Sorry that it has taken me a while for this reply. I tried to make this error happen when publishing on my tch-account, but nope when you want something to happen it wont. so I have to go with the second best. Here´s what the log says: 0 QUIT 1 221 Good Bye 2 Disconnected. 2 Connecting to FTP server. 2 Connected. 1 220-Axenix.. you aree logged and watched at all times 1 220 0 USER myname 1 331 User login OK, waiting for password 0 PASS mypassword 1 230 User password OK, CesarFTP server ready 0 TYPE I 1 200 Type successfully set 0 CWD tls 1 250 Directory change OK 0 TYPE I 1 200 Type successfully set 0 MKD HTMLobj-3122 1 501 Unknown error -Thomas Quote
Samrc Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 Thomas... Check out this page: http://www.samisite.com/publish/id79.htm I have duplicated a 501 error a couple ways. In both situations, I had a typo in my settings. 1) I had a / in front of the subdirectory name in publish settings. 2) Go to the last page you modified. Check your last insert > HTML code. A 501 error can be made when you insert your code with ^GEMDIR/image.jpg If you type it as ^gEMDIR/ or ^gemdir/ or ^gemdir// etc. CSB is unable to properly translate it into an HTMLobj- folder unless it is exactly ^GEMDIR/ with no space after the /. Also make sure you UNCHECK the option to publish to local HTML file -Samantha Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 16, 2003 Author Posted October 16, 2003 (edited) I haven´t checked out that page yet so maybe my answer is there ;-) My problem is that i DO NOT change anything about the gem, neither its files or anything with ^GEMDIR/... I let it stay as it is but still these errors show up. -Thomas (who is off to that page now ) Edited October 16, 2003 by Tonsa Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 16, 2003 Author Posted October 16, 2003 Update: I visited your page now and saw that this is what I already do. So there is no way I can do this without having to delete those pages/files with my ftp before re-publishing? In those cases Im thinking of, these web-gems are placed on the main pages/start pages. One question... Would it be better if i placed these gems in a external i frame, then i wouldnt have to be bothered that the gem is updated each time i do any other update to the page where the gem is placed on today? -Thomas Quote
Samrc Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 My problem is that i DO NOT change anything about the gem, neither its files or anything with ^GEMDIR/... I let it stay as it is but still these errors show up.If your code being placed into the insert > HTML requires images, sounds, flash, etc to work, then you must place ^GEMDIR/ into the code to upload the required files into the HTMLobj- folder! Only exception: you are placing your required files into another folder directly using FTP upload. In that case, the code needs to have that folder name in front of the file names instead of ^GEMDIR/. So there is no way I can do this without having to delete those pages/files with my ftp before re-publishing? In those cases Im thinking of, these web-gems are placed on the main pages/start pages. Don't remove the pages from your website or your tlx file. Just delete the NEW webgems on those pages and republish. It should publish fine if that is what is causing the problem. Then try to insert the gems again. But check your code carefully. If you want me to look at the code you are trying to insert and try it, send it to my email. I'll let you know if I run into any problem with it. Would it be better if i placed these gems in a external i frame, then i wouldnt have to be bothered that the gem is updated each time i do any other update to the page where the gem is placed on today? No. Once the gems are inserted and coded correctly, they will not interfere with future changes. -Samantha Quote
