shakes Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 Do customers get shell access via Telnet or SSH? Also, what is the policy for having additional software packages loaded if needed? (i.e. perl or php extensions) looking to move my site and i'm a bit skeptical. I'm moving from a crappy hosting company paying $15 a month, I have one I really like for another site that is about $25 a month for a similar plan ... and here this place is boasting $5 a month, and i haven't read any complaints ... blowing my mind. TCH-Rick Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 Our policy on SSH is found in our Help Pages. This is taken from there: Effective May 16, 2003, SSH access will no longer be offered by TCH. If you have a need for access to a shell environment, upon request TCH can install Jail Shell for a one time fee of $10.00. To request JailShell, just drop a ticket in at the help desk. Perl or PHP modules are considered on a case by case basis. You can send me a Private Message with particular modules and I can let you know if I see any problems. Many can be installed within your site as long as you include a path to them in your code. Quote
jpickeri Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 FYI, I requested a perl module not so long ago, and it was installed within minutes of my request. Quote
shakes Posted October 9, 2003 Author Posted October 9, 2003 thanks for the input. I don't have any specific packages in mind, but i wanted to make sure that if I ever have the need it will at least be considered. i'm not crazy about paying for shell access but I understand your stance on security and can appreciate that. I ended up signing up for an account last night and so far i'm impressed with the speed of the servers and love the management tools (cpanel rocks). now i just have to wait for dns to update so i can get off my old provider Quote
