Anything like Photoshop should do it. Use the "lasso" (am I saying that right?) tool to select what you want to keep and crop it. Or, you can select what you don't want and hit the delete key to get rid of it.

Photoshop

Paint Shop Pro

GIMP (If you use Linux...)

If you are using Photoshop or paintshop pro you can use a layer mask to paint out the background non-destructivly.

 

This way you can easily undo a slip by reversing the mask color and paint it back on.

Black will let the layer below show through, and white covers the layer below.

If you use a soft brush, it will blend the edges with the layer below.

Photoshop 6 also has a background eraser tool that I found recently. Used it and loved it!!! I don't know if it is in earlier versions or not.
