I am looking to add a forum to the site I have been charged with building. Having looked at a few things around the web, and this being a non-profit organization and all, I am trying to go on the cheap as much as I can.

I noticed in control panel where u can add a forum. Is this a way to add a complete forum set up that is already provided? And if so can someone provide a link to one so I can view it? I didn't go very far into it but it appeared to be an easy way to go.

Can someone shed some light on this please.

Hi,

There are 2 forums you can easily add from the cPanel.

Invision - like this one, and PHPBB. If you want to have a look at a couple of blank boards, try

www.tchtest.com/invision/

or

www.tchtest.com/forum/

The forum you are looking at now is the Inovision Forum, that most seem to like.

Installing is simple, from your cpanel > CGI Scripts > Addon Scripts.

Click on the link InovisionBoard and supply a folder name such as forum, admin user name and password, and click install. Your forum is then installed for you.

You have only to goto your site and visit the forum, log in as the admin to see your forum control panel to make changes.

I have tried others, but like this one the best, and so do the members of my site.

the other forum PHPBB is just as easy to install

from your cpanel > CGI Scripts > select Bulletin board, the same as the other board to install.

It really depends on the amount of traffic you have on your forum and if you use a very image heavy theme for it. For the most part though forums dont use much bandwidth.

May i put my 2 pence in for phpBB? Nothing personal about invision boards... I just prefer phpBB.... my advice? Install both, see which one you like best, then link the one you like best into your website.
