aaronk Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 I am a current reseller with another company and I am not happy with the service. Here are a few questions: --Do each of my clients that I setup get a unique IP address (I would like to provide DNS) --Do you offer vanity DNS? --What types of things are in place to protect your identify for me the reseller (are your mail server names generic for example) --Typically how long do support requests get answered --How long you guys been doing this? Head Guru Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 Hi, Your accounts would use a shared IP address, however that IP address would be only yours. Yes we provide FREE private NameServers. A lot of other Hosting Firms charge for this feature, its included here. Everything is private, AKA you become the host. Ask around about support...we are on top of things. Been hosting clients since 1999. Quote
smgcircle Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 Could you please explain what a private nameserver is (as opposed to a "non-private" name server)? How do I know if I have one? If I don't have one, how to I get one? Thanx! Quote
aaronk Posted January 10, 2003 Author Posted January 10, 2003 Regarding DNS, how much control would I have over DNS management? For example, I have some clients who host their own mail servers and only need WWW hosting. In this case the MX record would point to their IP address while the remaining records would point to your service. Basically, how can I control the DNS with your service? Quote
smgcircle Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Its your DNS Bill -- I understand some of the basics of DNS. Could you explain what "private" DNS is? Do I want it? Do I need it? Thanks! == Steve == Quote
Lianna Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Steve, This is something that I've been wanting to do too. Basically, what will happen is that you could give your clients DNS servers called dns1.******, etc. instead of DNS1.*****. It pretty much masks your reseller status. Advantage #1: You appear to stand-alone (no backend servicing agent) Advantage #2: Your domain name (in form of dns servers list) will appear in the whois lookup for all of your clients...may get more business from that. So, Bill...What do Steve and I need to do to get this set up? Then we will need to change DNS servers for all of our existing resold accounts, right? Lianna Quote
smgcircle Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 Lianna or Bill -- Any update on this? == Steve == Quote
Lianna Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 Steve, Bill and I talked briefly about it yesterday morning. Let me get some more details and the step-by-step and I'll get back to you. Probably tomorrow afternoon? Is that ok? Lianna Quote
