GroovyFish Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Howdy folks! I am setting up my very first mySQL database today and I think I did everything correctly (I watched the tutorial video even), but I received an error in Manage MySQL. (or maybe it is not an error...I don't know) Here is what I did: Created a database Created a user Added user to the database. After I added the user to the database, I got to the page where it said that the user was added to the database, but when I hit "go back" to the main Manage MySQL page, the following error was on the page: Users in cpanelname_databasename cpanel_username Connection Strings Perl $dbh = DBI->connect("DBI:mysql:cpanelname_databasename:localhost","cpanelname_username","<PASSWORD HERE>"); PHP $dbh=mysql_connect ("localhost", "cpanelname_username", "<PASSWORD HERE>") or die ('I cannot connect to the database because: ' . mysql_error()); mysql_select_db ("cpanelname_databasename"); *usernames and databases names changed to protect the guilty Can anyone give me a clue as to what that means, what I did wrong, and how I can fix it? Thanks! Groovy Quote
TCH-Sales Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 That's not a error, that means you did everything as you were supose to. Good job! Those are just conection strings you could use to connect to the databases via Perl or PHP. Hope this helps! Quote
leezard Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Thats normal, that is the connection string for the database. It's not really an error. Quote
GroovyFish Posted August 18, 2003 Author Posted August 18, 2003 HURRAY! Thanks for the lightening fast replies! What are you guys twins....writing at the same exact time LOL! Get used to my name...I am probably going to have more questions later! I am trying to install Movable Type. A friend wants to use it on her site (which we will be moving to TCH soon) so I thought I would try it out on my site and see if I can get it up and running before I completely screw up her site LOL I signed up with TCH for two accounts about a week ago or so...One account is just for playing and trying out new things... Movable Type today...OSCommerce is my next hurdle. Thanks again! Groovy Quote
TCH-Sales Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Total Choice Web Hosting Moveable Type installs are easy as pie thanks to the walkthrough on the Help Site. KW has written a great tutorial on how to install MoveableType on our servers! Lets see anybody else give their customers 6 minutes or less response times! Rock Sign Quote
leezard Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Welcome to the family! Everyone here is always willing to help, and i dont mean just the support and moderator folks. Never be afraid to ask a question, in most cases they get answered in a few minutes. As far as OSCommerce goes, it may be in your cpanel in the cgi scripts section under additional scripts as a one click install. If it isnt you can request it be added. Even if you do the manual install its pretty straightforward, if you need a hand just yell. Quote
TCH-Don Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Welcome to the family yes if you need anything, there is always someone around. Quote
GroovyFish Posted August 18, 2003 Author Posted August 18, 2003 Thanks so much! I am so glad to be part of the family! I "haunted" the forums for a long time before I decided to set up my accounts here. I made the decision to go with TCH, not just because of the service and support (although it is GREAT), but also because I was jealous and wanted to be part of the family!! BTW, I have set up Movable Type sucessfully and am now playing with the look and feel... WOO HOOO!! Thanks All! Groovy P.S. Leezard, I will be "yelling" about OSCommerce I am sure! I know I can have TCH install the program, but I want to do it myself (I am into self-punishment LOL). I printed all the OSCDOX stuff and looked through it and all I can say is "I am crazy" Part of it is not knowing all the settings in the admin section - OScommerce's admin demo has been offline everytime I have looked, and I need some specific things in the shopping cart and I don't know if what I want is standard or if I am going to have to wade through all the contributions to find what I want. Does anyone have comments on the MUST-HAVE contributions? Thanks again! Quote
