TCH-Rob Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 I am deleting my home page that was index.php and just using my main catalog page. I am using .htaccess to change it so visiting my url puts you at the catalog page. My .htaccess line is DirectoryIndex /catalog/default.php. Will this penalize me with the spiders? Quote
surefire Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 The posts I've seen in the past on this topic seem to indicate that doing a 301 redirect is the way to do a permanent page move (even though you aren't technically moving the page... just the location of the home of the site). Wish I could give you more info, but haven't done it myself. Quote
SEO Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 Jack's comment is correct, a 301 redirect would be best.... well not best but if you have to do it, best. I would not recommend it. Can you not create a simple, yet visually appealing and search engine friendly index.html? That would truly be best. Quote
Digirunt Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 I think its a great site anyway [with index] , maybe I just like knives. Thumbs Up Quote
TCH-Rob Posted July 22, 2003 Author Posted July 22, 2003 Digirunt, Thanks, besides computer hardware I am kind of a knife geek as well. Quote
