I've been uploading my websites using FTP with IP addresses for some time now via FP - no problems with that except some warnings from FP about FP extensions not existing. I ignore this and the site works just fine! I have installed the FP extensions at TCH.

Main issues now is when I try to upload using my domain name (www.windsorpalmsorlando.com). I've tried...

http://www.windsorpalmsorlando.com

-> can't login, login/password not accepted

and

http://www.windsorpalmsorlando.com/public_html

-> FP says this is not part of current web, check FP extensions

Am I doing the right thing here?

Could the FP extensions be corrupt? Not knowing how the FP extensions work...is it possible that uploading my site via FTP could somehow corrupt the extensions installation?

Thanks

Neil

I don't think uploading them via FTP would cause the problem. I've got FP extensions running on mine and there's been no problem that I can tell!

However, it's been a while since I've used FP (I normally use Macromedia's Homesite in Windoze and Bluefish in Linux) and your problem got me a little curious. So I opened up FP and tried to access my site. I found that I was unable to log into my site via any method using FP. Curious issue. Curious...but nothing that would cause me personally any major concern.

(But then again...I try to stay away from Micro$oft programs as much as possible!)

Hopefully one of the more knowledgeable guru's can give us both a logical explanation of this situation.

Hi,

If you could start a help ticket, the first part can be worked out.

Public_html does not exist in the domain name sense. Kinda hard to explain really but do not worry.

Start the help ticket and we shall sort you out!

Jim,

I wrote the ticket and you fixed something up that you found looked wrong - but I still can't upload using HTTP from Frontpage - FTP works fine. Same problem on both my hostings - must be something fundamental with what I'm trying to do. I did send a reply to your fix email but have seen no further reply.

Does anyone else use FP and upload their site using HTTP rather than FTP? I just get a repeated requests for logging in - as if my username/password were incorrect.

Cheers,

Neil

Yeah, FP doesn't like moving back and forth between FTP and HTTP. Once thing you can try is uninstalling the FP extensions in cPanel and then reinstalling them.

Rick,

Regarding the FP entensions - how do they actually work, where are they stored?

If I re-install the extensions in cpanel, will I need to re-upload my site before things will work? Similarly, if I upload using FP, can it somehow remove/overwrite some parts of the extensions?

Yours curiously,

Neil :D

If you uninstall and then reinstall FP extensions you will need to republish your site. There are several _vti files that are installed and FP interacts/stores information in them.
