Cokeman Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Hello - I've hosted a single domain with TCH for a while now and have been satisfied with the service. I've been considering upgrading to a reseller account since I've recently been offered the opportunity to design and host several additional web sites. My concern is focused on the pricing scheme for reseller accounts. Comparing the virtual hosting accounts to the reseller accounts, I can't see much benefit to upgrade to a reseller account. For instance, a Standard Reseller account offers 60GB bandwidth, 3.3GB storage, and all of the amenities for $35.00/month. Now, compare that to a single Silver virtual hosting plan which offers 40GB bandwidth, 1.2GB storage, and all of the amenities for $5.00/month. For the same price as the Standard reseller account, one could potentially purchase 7 separate Silver virutal hosting accounts to provide 280GB of bandwidth, 8.4GB of storage, and all of the same amenities (assuming that you're hosting 7 different domains/sites). I understand that many hosted websites need nothing more than basic needs to host plain text and basic graphics, so its possible they'd not need all of the bandwidth allotted to them. I'm guessing thats where a reseller account would be most useful. Is there something I'm missing when it comes to a Reseller account? It doesn't really seem like much of a bargain unless I intended on hosting dozens of very, very small, text-only websites. Thanks in advance for any advice. Quote
TCH-Don Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Welcome to the forums For me the main advantage to a reseller account is the Web Host Manager ( WHM ) Where you can manage all your accounts from one place. Including jump into each cpanel to make backups. You can also create your own accounts instantly. As to space and bandwidth, don't forget that the reseller domain is separate from the resold space and is of equal size. And can have add on domains. So you can host all of your own domains there saving the resold space for clients if you like. Quote
Cokeman Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 Thanks for the warm welcome. don't forget that the reseller domain is separate from the resold space and is of equal size. And can have add on domains. So you can host all of your own domains there saving the resold space for clients if you like. I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you're saying here. If I'm reading this correctly, my reseller domain - lets call it myresellerdomain.com - has its own allotted space and bandwidth? For instance, suppose myresellerdomain.com hosts 10 websites - hostedsite1.com, hostedsite2.com, hostedsite3.com, and so on. Are you saying that myresellerdomain.com has its own space and bandwidth while the hostedsite1.com, hostedsite2.com, etc. share another separate section of space and bandwidth? I'm a bit confused. I know I'm missing something. Perhaps I need more coffee. Thanks for your help. Quote
TCH-Andy Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Yes - you're correct myresellerdomain.com has it's own space and bandwidth - separate to your hosted domains. Quote
TCH-Don Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Bill, the owner does not feel your domain should take away from your reseller account space. So your domain has the same space and bandwidth as your reseller account. If you log into your domains cpanel and scroll to the bottom you will see an icon for your Web Host Manager (WHM). Also in your WHM you create hosting packages of space and bandwidth and features for your clients. There are video tutorials in the TotalChoiceHosting Help site that show what you can do with WHM. Please let us know if you have more questions. Quote

See, now you're talking! Now the Reseller Account starts to become much more attractive.... Thanks for all of the help. Quote

Cokeman Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 Sooooo, I've just about sold myself on a Reseller Account, but I've one last question before I jump on the bandwagon. If I sign up for a Reseller Account under a particular domain name, would I be able to change the domain name under the Reseller Account at a later date? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I believe so but you might want to open a ticket with the help desk and ask to be sure. You would have to contact the help desk to change it for you as well. Quote
Cokeman Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 Just an update - I received a reply from the Help Desk - they confirmed that you can in fact change the domain name listed under the Reseller Account. Thanks Quote

This might need a statement on the reseller plans page so people are aware. At one time, I had about 5 domains scattered around. When I was looking to consolidate them into one, I felt I could get a better deal with separate hosting plans since the simple reseller was only 550MB of storage (May 2003) and the Silver plan was 500MB. Unfortunately, I've trimmed the 5 down to 1-1/2 with just email usage on the 1/2. Quote
jnull Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Just my thoughts on being a TCH Reseller. I've was a TCH customer for about 2 years and then made the jump to a reseller account which I've now had for over a year. The primary reason to have a TCH Reseller account is TCH! Absolutely the best people and the best service of all web site hosting organizations I have worked with (and that's several over the years). You can't beat them. Others offer more storage mb and more bandwidth at lower prices. Something comes with those lower prices -- no service. You won't be sorry for becoming a TCH reseller! Go ahead, take the jump! Quote
