rnmcd Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 (edited) Quite often when I try to upload a large number of files (e.g., vBulletin) to my account via FTP, I get an error in SmartFTP (approx. 10 minutes into the transfer) that states something to the effect: Host failed to open connection or Host closed connection. Any ideas why this might be? Edit: It just happened again. Here is the message in SmartFTP: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. TCH-Bruce Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 The other thing you can do is zip your individual files into a single file and upload that. Then using the File Manager in cPanel extract the contents of the zip file. Quote
rnmcd Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 Are you using a PASV connection? I switch back and forth between PASV and not PASV each time the FTP'ing fails...even though I don't really know the difference between the two are. Quote

PeterPeter Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Try Filezilla as an alternative for ftp program. I have similar problems and it seems to work better. Quote

Coincidentally I tried Fielzilla just prior to getting your message. I can't figure out why, but it uploaded several times faster and it did not have errors. How can just using a different FTP program increase speed and reduce errors? Anyway, thanks for writing. Quote
TCH-Don Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 You can also get FileZilla as part of Portable Apps Suite for a USB drive Quote
