debalex Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 OK - I have a dual problem - Earthlink and AOL have put a spam filter on my ISP -dslextreme.com, and it seems that when I send from the TCH server with "mail.deborahsrants.com" that it will not send. I can receive fine when Outlook Express is configured automatically by CPanel. I changed the configuration to have the mail for deborah@deborahsrants.com sent via my ISP's STMP address, and this now seems to work. But, the whole point of setting up a new email account was to avoid gettng blocked out for the 30-40 folks on my email distribution list. Any suggestions? Deborah Quote
TCH-Rick Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 If your ISP blocks port 25 there is nothing that can be done on our end or yours. You can use webmail to send from anywhere through your domain account but if you use an offline client such as Outlook you will be unable to send through your domain mailserver. Quote
TCH-Andy Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 Hi, unfortunately if your ISP has a block on port 25 then sending viw your TCH host using outlook or similar just won't happen. You could use the webmail to send stuff to the email accounts which are blocked by your ISP, for which if it is a regular thing you could set up a mailing list on your server. Andy Quote
debalex Posted July 4, 2003 Author Posted July 4, 2003 Thanks. I feared that was the case. I will try to do webmail - but any suggestions on how to export the outlook express mail distribution list to the webmail application - I do not want to have to input manually all over again . . . Quote
TCH-Andy Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 If you export the addressbook from outlook, then go into Horde in webmail on your site, go into the addressbook, select import, you can inport a file in outlook format (or CSV). To be honest I havn't tried it, but the commands are there for it to work :-) give it a go, if you get any problems come back and I'll have a try. Andy Quote
webgyrl Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 Deborah, I use Outlook and Distribution groups to send out mass emails and Earthlink is my ISP (you can't use Outlook with AOL) and this is how I got over that Port 25 issue to send and recieve email via Outlook (but it shows as my domain name email)... This is how things should look when you open Outlook and go to: Tools > Accounts and click on your email accounts within Outlook: Click "Properties" for your email account and make sure the settings are as follows: GENERAL Mail Account: whatever name you want to show up in the email User Information Name: whatever name you want Organization: whatever organization you want E-mail address: yourname@****** Reply address: yourname@****** IMPORTANT: make sure you CHECK the box that says: include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing SERVERS Server Information My incoming mail server is a POP3 server Incoming Mail (POP 3): mail.earthlink.net Outgoing Main (SMTP): mail.earthlink.net Incoming Mail Server Account Name: your ISP account name Password: your ISP password Make sure you CHECK "remember password" CONNECTION Make sure your connection reflects that you use earthlink etc. ADVANCED Server Port Numbers Outgoing Mail (SMTP): 25 Incoming Mail (POP 3): 110 If you need any further explanation let me know. If you need me to give you instructions to add an account to Outlook also let me know. I just gave you the breakdown for an existing Account in Outlook. As for how the distribution group works... I do up the email an in the To: field I put an address that is something like myname@**** (like mail@mbstia.com) and then I select the BCC: field I click the BCC button, scroll to the distribution list I want to send email to, click "to", click "ok" and then I send out the mass email using whatever address I want to (eg. mail@mbstia.com) That process ensures that no one can see the list of emails that is being distributed to. Hope this info helps. Nat Quote
