Guest Kristina Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Hi folks, looks like a very friendly and helpful forum. Quick intro. I'm technically un-savvy, so i spend many hours banging my head on my desk when i have tech problems trying to find the answer. I can't be doing too bad as I managed to set up my own online shop using OsCMax. However my current host is killing me with slow transfer, downtime and problems. I was reading about a cPanel to cPanel transfer which sounds like just the ticket but what help will I get tweaking things so they work on a new server. My old host upgraded me to a new server and it took a week to get the shop working again (a couple of bits still don't work) I'd tell you what kind of transfer rates I've had in the last couple of months but the cPanel is down right now so I can't What hosting package would you recommend for a small e-commerce site? How quickly could I get my site transferred and functional? here's the site I built: www.lekkerthreads.com (there's a photo gallery & blog on there also) Many thanks, Kristina Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Hi and Welcome to the forum, Kristina. The cpanel transfer should not take long. All it takes after you purchased your hosting is a ticket to the helpdesk with the info they need to do this. If there are any server related issues after the transfer, the help desk will help you with that part, but if there are any configuration issues (such as users in any config files will not connect to the database etc) then we here in the forum are here for you. What plan you should purchase is difficult to say. It all matters on how much stuff (images, scripts etc) you have in your account and the number of visitors (bandwidth) you need. However, you can always upgrade/downgrade anytime if your chosen plan is no good. Quote
stevevan Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Welcome to the forums! As Thomas said, cpanel-to-cpanel is quite easy. There may be a short wait while the new IP address propagates, tho. Make sure you make backups of your data first! Quote
TCH-JimE Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Welcome to the forum. As suggested about the CPanel transfer is very easy to do and takes no time at all really. The IP changes takes up to 72hrs as it filters out around the world, but this is part of life with the internet, and is nothing to do with us. With regards to support, there is the wonderful forums here and most of us have experience of an odd package here and there so whatever help people can give, they always give it. With regards to what package, its true what Bruce says. However, if you start with the smallest one, we can quickly transfer you to a larger one if need be. Any more questions, please do ask!
