catellen Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 This is the first time I've managed a website with cpanel, my first attempt at using linux-servers, and my first attempt at using Gallery software... so the learning curve is huge. I'm not a novice computer user, I'm just not a programmer. Give me working hardware and software, and I can turn out something lovely. But I'm stumped in cpanel -- I've managed to update my password. Is there any way to set my primary login ID to something recognizable for myself, or am I stuck with the random-generator ID I was first assigned when I signed up with TCH? Copy/paste is a good thing, but I'd hate to be tied to a user ID if there was a way to change it. Thanks folks! -- Cat ** new owner of cayswann.com ** designer of about 10 other sites, all in windows environments Quote
TCH-Tim Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Hello Cat and welcome to the forums. I'm sorry but we do not allow you to change your cPanel username. If you need help remembering usernames and passwords I would recommend getting a password safe such as KeePass. Quote
TCH-Don Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Welcome to the forums and the family Cat The computer generated user name is for your own protection to prevent hackers from guessing your user name. A password program like Keepass or anypassword is a great idea. Quote

catellen Posted May 10, 2006 Author Posted May 10, 2006 Thanks everyone (anyone ever mention that you seem to one-line excessively your welcomes? *grin*) ... I have my own tracking (encrypted, of course) for all my IDs and passwords, so since the answer is just "Nope, you have to keep the random-generated ID" then I'll just manage. Now, off to search for more information on why Gallery isn't behaving for me. *grumble* -- Cat Quote
