Hi,

Just signed on at TCH. Have a couple of questions.

My web site is www.aquariuminstruments.com at another host.

Initial website at TCH is now aquariuminstrumentation.com which is a duplicate of www.aquariuminstruments.com.

I would like to move www.aquariuminstruments.com to TCH as painlessly as possible.

1) can i redirect vistors from old host (www.aquariuminstruments.com) to aquariuminstrumentation.com at TCH while transferring to TCH?

2)can I park domain aquariuminstruments.com at tch while propagating to TCH?

3)Once propagation is complete I would like to make aquariminstruments.com

the primary domain and aquariuminstrumentation the parked domain.

I believe this is the best way without losing any customers to complete the transfer.

Did not now where to post since I am now a customer.

Thanks

Hi,

Answers are:

1) can i redirect vistors from old host (www.aquariuminstruments.com) to aquariuminstrumentation.com at tch while transferring to tch?
Yes

2)can I park domain aquariuminstruments.com at tch while propagating to tch?
No. You would be required to move the domain name to us, which can take upto 7 days and then a further 72hrs to propergate though the net. Any changes you do to your domain name itself take 72hrs to filter through the net.

3)Once propagation is complete I would like to make aquariminstruments.com

the primary domain and aquariuminstrumentation the parked domain.

Long as both point to your root of the main domain, not a problem.

Seems like a real hassle switching hosts. Would like to get www.aquariuminstruments.com switched as soon as possible.

Maybe I went about this wrong.

Having problem transferring domain name and would just like to have present registers DNS servers to point www.aquariuminstruments.com to tch.

In previous post you stated for parked domain I would have to transfer name tch, about 10 days till site is up and running. If I just redirect DNS numbers the time would be only 72 hours.

Thanks Rick,

Received email (sent to my "old host" mailserver).

Have tch "new"web site up at temp ip address.

Once I change namesers pointing to TCH, does it mean my "old" web site goes down asap for 72 hours or is it a seamless tranfer to tch?

No, if your site is fairly static it should seem pretty seemless. Some folks will see the new one, some the old, depends on the ip in the nameserver of their ISP. I set up a redirect at my old host to send my email to my ISP mail account for a few days to keep from missing mail. I also had many folks that could see my new site before I could using my domain name. Even after you can see the new site it is common to suddenly be back in he old one due to the different nameservers in your own ISP.

Hi,

When would pp email be available at my new site at TCH. I'll be using the same email address as my "old site". Do I have to wait for domain propagation?

You can put in the ip address your were given in your welcome email as your pop3 server and check the mail now. Say for example that I am on an ISP that updates DNS quickly and I send you a message. It would go to your new account. If Jane is on an ISP that updates slower, she could send a message to your address and it would go to your old account.
