JohnO Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Hi, I'm new here. This started out as a smaller problem, but I've managed to make it worse. Yesterday I had no problem logging in to my Advanced Guestbook (AG) Admin. Today I kept getting Invalid Username or Password, and I did not knowingly make any changes to either one. So I logged in to CPanel and went to MySQL Account Maintenance. After trying all the changes I could think of (which I should not have done!), I now can't even view my guestbook on the web. Instead, the page I'm taken to shows this (edited for privacy): Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'xxxxxxx_agbook1'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/guestbook/lib/mysql.class.php on line 30 Connection Error MySQL Error : Connection Error Error Number: 1045 Access denied for user 'xxxxxxx_agbook1'@'localhost' (using password: YES) Date : Sat, March 25, 2006 14:02:20 IP : 71.193.201.40 Browser : Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1 Referer : xxxxxxxx PHP Version : 4.4.2 OS : Linux Server : Apache Server Name : www.xxxxxxxx.com This problem did not occur until after I had deleted user xxxxxxx_agbook1 (under Users:) and then added it back a couple of times, the first time using the password that always used to work, then trying the one I use to log in to CPanel. Note that the username (and associated password) that had always allowed me to log in to my AG Admin were never listed under Users or as a user in the xxxxxxx_agbook1 database on the MySQL Account Maintenance page. What is it I don't understand here? Prior to these changes, I tried adding a new user with password to the xxxxxxx_agbook1 database, with the All Privileges check-box checked. I tried to log in to my AG Admin as that user, but it didn't work. I tried deleting and re-adding user xxxxxxx_agbook1 from the database with the same name, making the same password changes as above. Nothing. Is there any way to fix this mess? I have no idea why I couldn't log in to my AG Admin as usual, when there was no problem yesterday. Thanks! Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Welcome to the forums. Open a ticket with the help desk and see if they can restore a backup for you. Link at top of page or in my signature. Quote
TCH-Don Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Welcome to the forum JohnO After you get the database restored by the techs You can edit the database directly in PHPMyAdmin and remove the password from your Admin user so that you can log in without a password. You can then reset it from the admin console. And then in cpanel > backup download abackup of the database. Quote
stevevan Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Welcome to the forums! Word of helpful advice: Jot down notes anytime you do something like this. You will find that these notes will come in very handy later on. (I've got a 2" binder full of them!) Quote
JohnO Posted March 27, 2006 Author Posted March 27, 2006 Thank you for all the welcomes and quick responses. TCH-Don, after the techs restored my guestbook I followed your suggestions and everything is working now. I also downloaded a backup from CPanel. Quote
