CAMPPAIN Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 How can I get my site to be on the search engines? I did the one that cpanel allows you to do by submitting to all the popular search engines. I still do not come up wth my site when I search google or msn etc etc. I even put in a meta tag and still nothing? anyone have any advice or tips, I may be doing somethng wrong (which isn't nothing new) Quote
Lianna Posted December 20, 2002 Posted December 20, 2002 Well, the glorious world of search engines! Each search engine updates at its own frequency. Once submitted, it could takes day, weeks, even months with some engines before your site is in the list. Normally 2-6 weeks is a "reasonable" submission lag. My site appeared on Google in about 2.5 weeks, and more than 2 months later hit MSN's list. Be patient. ...this isn't something that you, your host or ISP can control. Lianna Quote

aikiDave Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 If I could ask a question here... I notice that a number of search engine sites request that you pay a fee to have your site listed. I would guess that the money you pay is to speed up the process of getting your site to appear during a search? It would seem strange that only those who pay a fee would ever get their site to appear in a search engine. In other words, it seems as if you often have two choices: (1) pay a fee, and get your site listed immediately, or (2) pay nothing, and be patient. Is this correct? Just curious! Many Thanks, aikiDave Quote
TCH-Don Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 As I understand it, paying is to cover the time of someone to submit your site. If you read Google's info, you can submit your site to them, "but that does not mean it will be listed any sooner". I would guess that is because a human would have to read your submission, and they may be overwelmed by the number of submission's. This is my experience, on thepetscorner, I submitted it, it took 4 weeks. on my other site, I did not want it listed untill it was finished. When I linked to it from thepetscorner, it was listed in 4 days. So the more your site is linked to, from others, the sooner a searchbot will follow that link to your site. So visit sites like yours and add a link or sign a guestbook if you can. Quote
shedboy Posted January 26, 2003 Posted January 26, 2003 Aikidave : You are correct . There are free search engine submission which can be anything from 1 week to 6 months in some extreme cases. There are also search engines / directories who have pay for listing submissions which get listed in 2-3 days usually . These range in costs but are usually about $199 each . Another category is PPC search engines where you can bid on keywords . A personal opinion is that the paid for submissions services are responsible for some real commercial rubbish appearing in directories . Yahoo being the best example . I personally would submit to the open directory . http://dmoz.org first because Google , Yahoo and many others use their listings in their own pages . Quote
Nicholas Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 You are right on many levels. You can also add ppc on google and altavista and they will put your site in a box on the right side. and everytime a person clicks through it deducts x amount of cents. Quote
