oldhag Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 I am subscribed to a yahoo group. I just got an email bounce with this message: Remote host said: 550 http://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml?216.155.203.221 : [RCPT_TO] I don't use any spamblockers, filters, whitelists, blacklists or anything on my mail. Is this some virus? What's happening? Quote
TCH-Andy Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Hi oldhag, welcome to the forums. This is basically saying that yahoo has been used to send out spam - and hence spamcop is blocking that IP. Where the bounce comes from (and the contents) will tell you if it is your ISP, or somewhere else that is checking spamblock for blocking the emails from there. Please note, this is not blocking a TCH server, that IP is for a Yahoo server. Quote
oldhag Posted February 14, 2006 Author Posted February 14, 2006 Thank you all! Now, so I can trust that this was something originating from yahoo, not me? Did yahoo think I was sending spam? Also, I am considering upgrading my Wordpress to 2.0. Does TCH have help for WordPress? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 By help, what are you asking? TCH does not install software but if you run into problems the forum is a good place to start to find an answer. If you follow the upgrade instructions you should have no problems. Back up your database, disable any extensions you have running, delete the core files as the instructions say, install the new files, run the upgrade script and turn your extensions back on. Couldn't be easier. Quote
stevevan Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Back up your database, disable any extensions you have running, delete the core files as the instructions say, install the new files, run the upgrade script and turn your extensions back on. Couldn't be easier. The key words are above in red. (Speaking from personal experience and from seeing many users forget this little tidbit!) You would have to look in the headers of the email to tell where the bounced message was originating. Quote
oldhag Posted February 14, 2006 Author Posted February 14, 2006 Welcome to the forum, oldhag. My worry is that I didn't use a Wordpress template and I have some custom categories. I don't know if I did what are called Wordpress "hacks"....basically, I had someone with far more technical skills do it for me. But I will check out the Wordpress forums over here. Quote
Pendragon Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 I got a bounced email yesterday that said (in effect): "Valid RCPT to must preceed DATA". Meaning the mail server tried to send the content before it sent who it was going to. Quote
