Mav2u Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Okay, I'm waiting for my domain name to transfer but before that is going to happen I'm trying to upload all my files and make sure everything works on the server before the switch happens. I want my website move to be totally unnoticed. Here is the problem, it seems I cannot just use the IP to my site to make sure it works as the name of the site is 123.12.12.12/~somethinghere/nothing. So when I try to run a script or setup my stuff if tries to automatically go to the 123.12.12.12/somethinghere/nothing which doesn't work since it does not have that little tild thingy in front. On my other webhosts I was provided a working IP number to my domain location so that I could make sure things worked before I transfered my stuff over, but it doesn't seem to be the case with TCH. Please correct me if I'm wrong and let me know how I can do this. I want to make sure my blog, nuke, and forums and other scripts are working before I point my domain over to the servers here. I don't want to be trying to make fixes on my site after I transfer as it would be a serious headache, but I can't get anything to work script wise. Thanks for any info you have, Mav woooot Quote
surefire Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 From my experience, you are going to have to just make the switch and cross your fingers. One way that you might be able to test first would be to create a new directory on an existing TCH site that you own (if that's the case... and I believe it is the case for you... I've seen you posting before). Upload your entire site to this directory and test it out. Now, I know that the way that I code php would prevent this from working without major code rewrite... so that kinda defeats the purpose. But maybe you could test a few of the more vital pages that have you concerned. I moved a VERY large site to TCH and I'm glad I made the move but it's been a long week or so of recoding several pages and debugging script that was sloppily written. Best of luck to you. Quote
Mav2u Posted June 13, 2003 Author Posted June 13, 2003 Yep, it looks that way for me also. (Fingers Crossed) Hopefully it will happen in the wee hours of the night when I'm up, so I can challenge any coding or scripting that decides it needs a good wrassle'n in order to work properly. Ugh, the torture while waiting for the site to switch is killing me. Head Bash Quote
TCH-Rick Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Make a full backup and download it to your computer using an ftp program before starting. Quote
