dallara Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I am continuing to build my first site using NVU. I am working on a feedback page.......a simple one. I also wanted to put my email so that those who can't or do not wish to use a feedback form could contact me. I was thinking about typing my email in MS paint and saving it as a basic jpeg and putting that on the page. The person would then have to manually type it out. Will this method stop the spiders that spammers send out to collect email addresses, or is there a better way? Thanks! Quote
TCH-Rob Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Never thought of doing it that way. I am sure that would stop a bot from seeing it. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 That's probably one of the better ways to do it. If you want feedback from your site use forms and good form processor which will hide your email. Quote
dallara Posted February 2, 2006 Author Posted February 2, 2006 Thankyou both for the replies........by "form processor", do you mean the way the form gets back to me? Also, would you be able to point me to a good very simple form which might be like you are talking about? Thanks again.......dallara. Quote

Will this method stop the spiders that spammers send out to collect email addresses, or is there a better way? The Web is built on links, and making people type in your E-mail address is a good way to ensure people won't send you feedback. Check out my feedback form. It uses a form to send feedback, but also has my E-mail address at the bottom. The E-mail address is obscured using HTML entity encoding, which works in all the browsers I've tried. I haven't gotten much spam with this setup. Of course, maybe my site just isn't very popular. Steve Quote
stevevan Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 You might also want to try Ultimate Form Mail found here. Quote
crippen Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 (edited) From the TCH FAQs: Masking your E-mail address Edited February 3, 2006 by crippen Quote
stevesh Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 The masking methods will only work until someone wants to take the time to write a 'bot that can read through them. A good, secure form mailing program like Ultimate Form Mail is the way to go. Steve Quote
