Ok - I ordered the domain name, which I understand takes about 1-3 days to be properly recorded. So until then, my actual site is not going to be available. Once it is - which I presume I will be told of via an email (i.e., you domain name has been approved and is up and running) - - is all I need to do is publish to this site in Front Page 2002 in order to have the web page posted. I have tried to tool around CPanel in the temporary location and I will admit - I am confused.

Leave it to a rookie to mess up what shoud be an easy start to things.

Thanks.

Just making sure -

You ordered the domain name AND the hosting correct?

If so, domain propagation will take 24 - 72 hours.

Just sit tight till the domain name is working, then you should be able to publish straight away in front page. Front Page gets very picky when trying to publish to a IP Address.

front page = Head Bash

Just be patient, if you need more help open a support ticket or post another thread.

Thanks - I ordered both the domain name and the hosting through total choice - I will wait until the domain name propogates, and then go from there.

Thanks for confirming that I am at least on the right track.

Yes, welcome...and one thing to keep in the back of your mind, just in case:

If you have trouble posting your site using Frontpage...consider using a separate FTP program for loading your site. There are quite a few free programs out there that are pretty simple to figure out with a little help.

Good Luck!

Hi! Welcome to Total Choice!

Tracy suggested the possibility of publishing your FrontPage web using FTP--I'd like to *strongly* advise against that.

I use FrontPage 2002--I have sites here, which support FP extensions. I also have a site elsewhere, that does not support FP extensions, but I still develop the site in FP.

FrontPage publishes pages *besides* the ones you create--it creates its buttons, its banners, its navigation bars, its shared borders. If you try to publish a FP web yourself, using FTP, you are very likely to miss some files that FTP automatically creates.

I also don't know what happens with those features that require FP extension support on the server, if you don't use FP's publishing feature.

And finally, FP compares your web to the web on the server, and only publishes pages you've changed (it tracks dates modified). If you publish via FTP, you'll have to do this yourself--and trust me--you'll miss some :-(.

Many people will bash FrontPage, and it is far from a perfect web development environment, but it isn't bad for what it's made for--but circumventing its publishing feature will likely bring you *major* grief, and cause you to have to delete your whole web on the server and start over.

p.s. The site that isn't here *would* be here if I controlled the site. I don't--I just create it. B)

OK - well the site is up - and I tried to publish using front page, and initially it worked, but got all funky on me. I also changed my password from the one initially designated to something that I could remember without referencing it each time.

In the CPanel6 application the password works, but in Frontpage, it does not seem to now (it did the first time before I changed it).

HELP - (serves me right for trying to do somthing while at work . .. )

Just wanted to say that I definately did not mean to suggest anything that would give you problems. I was just recalling some problems I had encountered. I got used to using a simple FTP program and liked the control it offered in some situations.

Anyway...I definately did not mean to lead you astray...
