jscfan Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 hello tch, first off just want to point out that I'm a newbie at the whole website design and layout. I'm reading alot and trying to understand the whole website layout, but I'm a little lost on something. If someone can shed some light for me please... this is my current site... http://www.dvdstockpile.com/ it's a personal site with my collection of dvds and also a site to basically list all of the major upcoming dvds every tuesday. As you can see from the site its very plain and simple (still working on it and I know I have alot of work to do), so here is my question. How do I create a database? I barely know php or mysql (learning as we speak)... I'm trying to follow this tutorial here, but I'm lost... http://www.visualdesigncore.com/tutorials/...HP-News-System/ thanks in advance! Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 If you are not wanting to create this whole thing from start, I would recommend looking in to a news script, like Czarnews or Cutenews. Both are free if you are willing to show the "powered by" line near your news. Quote
jscfan Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 ok cool I will look into those, thanks a bunch. I got one last question, say I do want to do all this from scratch. Is there any site you would recommend to show a step-by-step on how to creat a database. I know I'm asking for alot, but I would like to learn if possible. Thanks again... Quote
TCH-Mark Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Hello, I would recommend having a look at amazon or something like that to find some books on mySQL, also if you have a look around google it will give you some good resources and links for mySQL & PHP etc. devshed.com sitepoint.com Quote
jscfan Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 will do thanks a bunch! If I have any other questions I will definitely ask...thanks again! Quote
abinidi Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I recently created my first database from scratch. Here is one website I used that I found to be helpful: h**p://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/99/13/index2a.html?tw=backend The linked article is called "Your First Database". Maybe it'll help you too. Best wishes. Quote
stevevan Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Not to sound bad or anything, but you might also want to check into "MySql For Dummies". I have several of the "...For Dummies" books and found them to be quite helpful and easy to understand and remember. Quote
