Hello:)

I'm trying to publish my site via FTP thru FP2000 with not much luck.

FP starts publishing the way things should then after @20 seconds of transferring iFP gets "stuck" on one file..... then after a LONG time (maybe 5 minutes) FP come s up and says "The server unexpectedly closed the connection".

I went into cpanel and saw the following: (I x'd out the IP address)

proftpd: john pool-xxx-xxx-xxx-xx.phil.east.verizon.net: STOR _themes/ar/flagback.jpg 08:54

Couple minutes later:

proftpd: john pool-xxx-xxx-xxx-xx.phil.east.verizon.net: STOR _themes/ar/flagback.jpg 08:54

I looked at the above file on your server after i got the connection closed message and it was/is 0 bytes. I've been trying many times to get the site over with no luck:(. "Hangs" on a different file each time.

Any idea if it's ok to NOT use FP to ftp over? I can't use HTTP via FP since i do not want to xfer the dns until i can get the site over to your server.

Here's my IP: 66.246.43.132

Have you installed the Frontpage Extensions to your site yet? Go to CPanel and click Frontpage Extensions in the Site Management group.

Then try to republish with Frontpage.

Yea...me and *****guru had fun with that already  .

I just keep publishing after i get the dis-connection. Now i'm getting LPRT 500 not understood and get disconnected :D .

Gotta love FP.

I still have a few feet left on my rope!

Can you see any errors in a log somewhere that would explain the disconnect?

The problem could be your site is to big to publish with FP and FTP.

See, we have to set a timeout onthe FTP server to avoid "security" problems.

So, because the folks at redmond cant use their head, sometimes.

FTP server needs to get a command every so many minutes or it will time out. FP does not send that command.

How big is your site?

The timeout is the problem then. I'm trying to publish from a Zip drive and it has to gather all the folder info from the Zip before it starts FTPing it.

The site has alot of folders.... @200mb total... i think:).

I'll back it up to my HD and try again tomorrow night.

Thx.

Can you first publish in parts? I'm not sure how the Frontpage publishing works, but seems that if you can get the site to break up into parts, you're problems could be minimized.

Thinking out loud.

No, FP won't let you do parts.

Is there a way to remove the timeout based on my userid? I'm publishing from my HD now and i'm getting timedd out out a STOR command.

Will i have this problem when i publish via HTTP?

If you can email me all of your OLD host and SNH host information, I will try to transfer your existing site over in parts. Then you should be good to publish updates after that. I know that your site is really large, but I've had fairly good success in just tranferring raw files that were created in frontpage.

Click the Email button. I should be able to get this done today without issue.

Lianna - i got it over...thanks for your offer.

I have to say, the response time on your hosts are faster then the one i'm on today paying 4x as much for. That's a GOOD thing:).

OK....the domainname is now pointing to SN and when i try to "open" the web that i have on SN it asks me for my password/username, i put in the one i signed up with and it does not accept it.

FP does accept it when i publish using ftp...but not http and i "NEED" to use http to connect to my site on SN.

Any thoughts?

here's what i'm doing using FP 2000:

-open frontpage

-click "open web"

-click "web folders"

-under "folder name" i type "http://americanraceway.com"

- a "Enter Network Password" box appears

- i enter my username & password i signed up with

- i click "OK"

after the above the "Enter Network Password" box appears again

FP logs the following "error" after 3 tries:

12/17/2002 21:38:22

You are not authorized to perform the current operation.

If you guys want to make another password for my site and try to open the web you are MORE than welcome to:).

I'm using FronPage 2002 and also, depending on ftp connection to server, get hung up/timed out now and then. The best thing to do is to set your options in FronPage to only update changed files. This way, if you only make it part of the way through the transfers, you essentially pick up where you left off.

Anyhow, that's worked well for me. Mind you, I've only been at this for a couple of days now, but the site's up and running so something must be going right :P
