In my last topic: Don't let this happen to you.

I just wanted to say some of you took this in the wrong way. I was not bad mouthing anyone.

I was trying just to state my situation.

It is true that I never had any problems before this happened.

I just need help.

If this never happened in the first place TCH would be the best choice out there for webhosting. I know this was my fault, but I didn't think anyone would care breaking into a Leonardo DiCaprio Site.

I guess hackers are some bored they have nothing better to do.

So I apologize to TCH the hackers are at fault. :1eye:

TCH ROCKS :rolleyes1:

I read your original email and did read it as the TCH folks read it. I'm glad to read this post - it's a bit more on the reasonable side.

As to the bored hackers - I think too many people believe that most hackers are "script kiddies" with too much time on their hands. There are quite a lot of those, but the worst kind are the criminal ilk - such as hijacked your site. This was no accident, no random happening. Your site was compromised by criminal elements who prowl the internet looking for easy pickings.

For $4.00/month I'm with the head man - it's my responsibility to keep my site secure and clean.

Your unfortunate loss is a message to us all - they're out there, they want your site, your machine, your account!

Good luck to you!

Thanks for the followup Mrsmlucas. It did sound to me like you were blaming TCH in the original but I also know that frustration can make us say things in a way we do not mean it.

As for the hackers, John's right. These guys probably have a computer or computers out there looking at every website they can to see if CoolScript Version 3.2 is running because they know how to hack into it. They also have computers trying to log in to your account with every random password or dictionary word they can think of.

Once they get in they can send millions of emails and get paid $0.001 each or something terribly small. If you have that tiny amount times millions of emails then it pays off for them to risk it.

Sorry for your loss - death to the crackers/spammers!

(Just think if they used that energy for good - we may have a cure for cancer and the national debt by now!)

No it's more likely they just used Google. There is a major exploit in Advanced Guestbook 2.2 whereby anybody can login as admin. Some people have been using the exploit to upload phishing pages to vulnerable sites. I highly doubt any "hacker" is going to bother trying to brute force a random sites passwords. They are more likely to just look for exploitable scripts they can make use of.
