boxturt Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 I did a backup of the lyrics site yesterday, the one with 16k worth of files. After I got the backup downloaded I realized I suddenly had way too many files showing in Cpanel/file manager. All files with filenames longer than 31 characters were duplicated and cut off right at 31 characters. The original filename and file remained intact. So I ended up with about 1000 extra files with half a name, .htm, .ht or.h for extensions and so on. Any ideas? ty Quote
TCH-JimE Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Hi, Your going to hate me, but rename them. Whilst a filename of 31 characters helps, is there not some other way to label them Just off the top of my head from years ago, 31 characters sounds like some kind of DOS limitation. What FTP did you use to download them? Jim Quote
boxturt Posted May 30, 2003 Author Posted May 30, 2003 Hate? Nah, not me but the gal in Belgium who does the actual song files may. Certainly not the way I would have used a naming scheme but oh well, that part is out of my hands. (and yes, '31' does ring a bell) All these extra files didn't appear on the server until after I requested a backup be generated. Then again, perhaps I never noticed before but it was real obvious. And I could almost see the files being delivered via FTP (using ACE and WS_ftp) and cutting off the ends of files but the proper file (with +32 char) is also there. After I spent a couple hours deleting the semi-duplicates I created a file called ... "thismaybethelongesttitleeverimaginedpossibletoactuallyuseasthefilenameforalyric. tml ... uploaded via ftp and all was well. Very odd Quote
