6d4vdub Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 I instaulled the guest book and thats working good. I instaulled Coppermine, but I cant upload photos I get the message "cant move file" Warning: move_uploaded_file(./albums/edit/mHTTP_temp_c4a3215c.JPG): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/ohoxqtuz/public_html/Coppermine/upload.php on line 1197. From watching the tutorial I thik I have to make a database but when I opened MySQL I couldn't figure out how to do it. I tried changing permistions but that did't work. I went to Phpbb web site and all that was WAY above me. Not knowing sql from html makes everything hard. (-: Second: I want to instaull a message board, what do you suggest? Thank you Jack Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 I believe you need to CHMOD the edit directory to 755 or 766. What kind of message board are you looking for? Quote

TCH-Rob Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 You can use an FTP program if you have one or you can use cPanels File Manager. In cPanel, navigate to the folder you want to change and click it. On the upper right, click Change Permissions. That is where you change them. In your cPanel there is an area called Addon Scripts. In there you have two forum boards; Invision (This forum uses Invision) or PHPbb. Quote
stevevan Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 There's a couple ways to do it. If you open up your CPanel, look for "File Manager" and click on that. Once File Manager opens up, simply navigate to the file or folder you need, then click on it. In the upper right hand corner, you'll see something that says "Change Permissions". That's the place to change it. The other way is by using a FTP program. (Not sure what you have so I included both options.) Quote

So I deleted Coppermine and reinstalled it and and set my permissions to 744 again with no luck. I get the same thing. Could it be my router or McAfee Firewall preventing the upload? Just shooting in the dark. I installed Invavision and that works good, thanks on that one. Steve I just noticed your a Ham, I'm AB2W. Ya might think I could grasp this stuff, but I guess I just have my senior moments with computing. Hi Jack Quote
GroovyFish Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 Hi Jack I don't think it should be 744, try setting the permissions on the edit directory to 755. Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 The album folder and all inside it should be set to 777 Quote
6d4vdub Posted September 17, 2005 Author Posted September 17, 2005 The album folder and all inside it should be set to 777 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi Don, I tried 777 and that don't work either. I tried every setting I could and nothing helps. I can't upload in Admin., user or URL mode. I've been beeting my head for hours and hours. I check my config many times to see it somthing didn't look right. It must be some stupid little thing that I'm overlooking. Can the help desk help with this? If I give someone my username and password can they go and check it out for me? I hate being a pain in the butt but I spend many hours getting nowhere. I think I'll go work on my car for awhile. g Thanks guys jack Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 Jack, In most cases, the help desk does not have the capacity to resolve issues such as these. They are for server issues and the like. I would not give your username and password to someone in the forums for your protection. One of the mods or myself may be able to assist if we get some free time. I have some personal issues I need to attend to that take some precedence right now but if I get time I will try and contact you later to see if you have made any progress and offer help if I can. It has been a while since I have worked with Coppermine though so you will need to bear with me if I get in contact with you. Note, this is not normal procedure for the forum moderators. This would be of my own doing, I need something to take my mind off the days events, so if I do get some free time I will contact you. I also want to make it clear that it may not be till quite a bit later till I get to contacting you due to the things that I need to take care of. You can PM me with whatever details you want and I will see what I can do when I get back online. Quote

They talk in technical turns that I just have no idea what they are talking about. It also seems a lot people use it on BBS’s or download the program and instaull themselves. They have access to all the files that the Thec’s refer to and are able to fix them. I can’t get to those files because they say (from reading posts) your host has to do the fix. I made a few changes that they had a tutorial on in Config and User but that didn’t help. I changed the permissions to 777 as coppermind recomened also and the only place I can change them is by clicking on the one and only coppermind folder I see in my File Manager. On the CM web site they said make the change in the Public folder also, but I don’t see anything in that folder that’s related. Any time, or anytime you have Rob would be greatly appreciated I do appreciate all the help from everyone Jack Quote
Deverill Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 Do take the time to read the tutorial Thomas mentioned in his reply. It has a pretty basic (as much as possible) description of what to do. There are, if I remember correctly, three directories that need to be CHMODed but it is all laid out in step by step fashion. The link Thomas gave is a tutorial here, not on the uber-technical Coppermine site. Quote
6d4vdub Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 The album folder and all inside it should be set to 777 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Rob, I'm so sorry for your wifes and your loss. I hope she is not taking it to hard. My sincere condolances. Rob, Thank you for the special help your willing to give me. I would like to give it one more try today. It just bugs the **** out of me when something gets the best of me. Latter today I'm going to give it another try and see what happens. If I can't get it, I'll come back with my tail betwen my legs for your help. thanks so very much Edited by TCH-David: Please remember these are family forums - no profanity! Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 You said one and only one folder for coppermine there should be other folders inside of the folder you created for coppermine. And then uploaded the coppermine files and sub folders inside of that folder and then change the permissions for the files and folders inside as per the tutorial. Quote
6d4vdub Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 Coppermine tutorial Well guys I tried everything again and changed the permissions upto 777 and I still got the same error message Now I'm going to use the ftp to upload the program and use the tutorial that Thomas pointed me to. I just don't like somthing to beat me before I try another direction. Also sorry for the bad word in one of my posts. sorry. I'll be a few days but I'll let you know how I make out. All the help and suggestions are very much appreciated. jack Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 We are positive that you can do it, Jack. Quote
6d4vdub Posted September 23, 2005 Author Posted September 23, 2005 We are positive that you can do it, Jack. Well guys I DID IT!!!! Don, I must have been having a senior moment when I read your post. "The album folder and all inside it should be set to 777" You said "album folder" and I was thinking Coppermine folder. Today I opened the "Album" folder and changed the USERPICS to 777 and that's what did it. that's the only one that I had to change in that folder to get it to work. The other thing I had to change was, when loged into Coppermine in the Admin mode, I had to click on groups and change the upload from mutable uploads to single uploads. This I got of the Coppermine web site. I had to make both changes for it all to gel. Out of it all I learned how to ftp to the site, work in the File Manager, and how to take eye drops because of reading so much. I'm happy, my wife is more then happy (because I'm smiling again) and the dog is happy because I don't kick him anymore when I walk by. Thank you all so much for the help and encouragement. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Glad you were able to get it worked out. Quote
TCH-Don Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Well done Jack I am sure the dog thanks you Quote
jayc Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Glad you were able to get it worked out. I was just able to avoid opening a trouble ticket by searching on "failed to open stream" and the fix was the same for me. I am a little worried about security concerns by opening up these directories to 777 I also had a problem with Coppermine initially that came from not understanding that I needed to set the URL in the config file to: http://[myurl]/[myinstalldirectory]/ the text with this configuration choice is not clear. I am wondering if, for the cpanel packages, it might not make sense for TCH to start a knowledge base area with common problems for each package. I was finally able to get phpGroupware working, am testing it out now, large number of problems with the various applications, but if someone has problems with this package I am available to provide any number of wrong guesses and a few correct ones. jayr Quote
