greatfolios sysop Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 First visit Summary Last visit 01 May 2003 - 00:00 Month May 2003 21 May 2003 - 23:22 Unique visitors 1622 Number of visits 2667 (1.64 visits/visitor) Pages 21185 (7.94 pages/visit) Hits 174441 (65.4 hits/visit) Bandwidth 1.15 GB (450.5 KB/visit) Quote
TCH-JimE Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Hi, I am not sure what you mean by explaining but here goes: Unique visitors - 1622This counts unique IP addresses, so essientially 1622 different people have viewed your site this month Number of visits 2667 This is the number of times that the unique vistors have visted, so some have come back more then once. Pages - 21185This is the number of pages they have requested in total. Hits - 174441 A hit is any retrinal of a file which makes up a page, e.g. a graphic, a picture. These days "hits" are banded about like they are going out of fashion. In reality, they mean nothing, because its not about hits, its about unique vistors Bandwidth -1.15 GB Each graphic and page take space. E.g. You have say 10 gigs of bandwidth (10,000 megs). Someone then views your website, and say sees two pages at 30K each. That means the vistor has used 60K (2x30) of your bandwidth. Therefore you have 10,000 megs minus 0.030 megs left for the next vistor and so on. I hope thats what your looking for, if not, let me know and I will try to assist you further Jim Quote
SEO Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 QUOTE Number of visits 2667 This is the number of times that the unique vistors have visted, so some have come back more then once. Just view this as the total number of vistors, some unique and others... well just pretty normal (i.e. repeats). A hit is any retrinal of a file which makes up a page, e.g. a graphic, a picture. These days "hits" are banded about like they are going out of fashion. In reality, they mean nothing, because its not about hits, its about unique vistors. Exactly! Quote
greatfolios sysop Posted May 23, 2003 Author Posted May 23, 2003 its not about hits, its about unique vistors This is at the root of my question! the rest of your post helps allot though. Thanks, Mr. Bill Quote
boxturt Posted May 26, 2003 Posted May 26, 2003 Continuing this thread....... AwStats is showing 48821 unique visitors for the month at my lyrics site. Same site got hit twice this month by Teleport and Acrobat "grabbers" and pinched about 34,000 pages total. As I understand it that would NOT influence the unique visitor count, is that correct?? My unique visitor counter on home page shows about 34,000 less than what AwStats is showing. (maybe that doesn't work?) -Ty Quote
TCH-JimE Posted May 27, 2003 Posted May 27, 2003 Hi, It should only count thoose two twice, as they should have only come from one computer address each, unless they hit you on mulitple days. However, depending on the setup, it may have counted them more, depending on how they downloaded your site. I suggest you block them using htaccess so other people can not do it. The counter on your front page is unrealiable. Jim Quote
boxturt Posted May 27, 2003 Posted May 27, 2003 Thanks Jim. Gee, then how hard is it for them to each mail me a dollar??? Quote
TCH-JimE Posted May 27, 2003 Posted May 27, 2003 If I had a dollar for everytime someone said that..... Jim Quote
boxturt Posted May 27, 2003 Posted May 27, 2003 Then we'd both be rich! One last (I hope) question : AwStats logs unique visitors from every index.html load or from any page on site? That would make sense and explain a lot. (except why I'm so broke ) Quote
SEO Posted May 27, 2003 Posted May 27, 2003 A unique visitor is not defined by the entry point, just on their uniqueness and visit. Quote
