I'm sending an email using Goldmine Contact Management software and I get a "550" error from the host server (TCH) when trying to send mail to an attbi.com address. It's blocking the mail from being sent.

Here's the weird part: I can send mail to other clients using Goldmine and Outlook. No problem. How can I find out where this particular mail is being blocked? By ATTbi? By TCH mail server? By my ISP?

My guess is that ATTbi is blocking it but why would they care since I'm not a threat of relaying on their server? And if they are blocking it, how come I can send using Outlook?

I'm stumped.

Thanks,

Jerry Presley

One possibility: in Outlook, make sure the 'my outgoing SMTP server requires authentication' is enabled - click here for details

Also, in your Outlook setup, who are you specifying for outgoing SMTP server - TCH or your ISP? If using TCH, change it to your ISP instead. For example, my incoming mail is pointed to mail.mywebsite.com (that's on tCH), but my outgoing mail is pointed to Verizon, my ISP.

HTH!

if you are getting a 550 error it is being blocked by who you are sending to. the reason most isp's block mail is beacause of spam. if attbi has ever recieved a lot of spam from the mail server that you use its more than likely blocked. (not spam from you, but spam through the same outgoing mail server you use)

the only way to get around it is to change outgoing mail servers in you mail set up, or to call attbi and see if you can find out why its blocked. But just as an FYI, if you call tech support and talk to a level one tech, they probably will have no idea why its blocked and tell you its something wrong on your end . A supervisor or someone that actually works with the mail server is your best bet. :)

I just love this forum. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I'm sending mail through the TCH mail server to an ATTbi account. If I use Outlook, I can send okay to the ATTbi address. When I use Goldmine, the mail gets the "550" block. I'm positive the email settings are the same on my Outlook and Goldmine.

I can send to any other email address using Goldmine, so I know Goldmine is set correctly.

At this point, I think ATTbi is blocking it and I'm going to take leezard's advice and call ATTbi tech support.
