procrastinate Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Hmmm... I just installed osCommerce in my cpanel. after i logged into the admin page, it shows that my name is "Harald Ponce de Leon" and that i live in Florida (both of which are..ug...not me). it also thinks i have 27 products listed, 1 customer, 1 review of my products....just all sorts of weird things. I just installed it so obviously there shouldn't be anything in there...can someone tell me what's happening here? Is that supposed to be a sample/demo thing? but that's kinda weird even for sample.... Also (this may be a duh question w/a duh answer since i haven't looked ) but if i use oscommerce, is there a function where after you enter the items details they will return "buy now" script/code for you to copy and paste on to your website, just as paypal cart does? or how is it integrated to your site? TCH-Rob, I saw in a few of your posts you kindly referred ppl to your website for oscommerce examples, but i can't find where your website is (even in instances where you said "click on the www under my post," i don't see anything) . would you let me in on the secret? or if anyone else using oscommerce don't mind sharing their website, i'd greatly appreciate it as well! thanks! TCH-Don Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I don't use it, but just installed it and now I am Harald Ponce de Leon too Yes it is setup with sample info to show you more than a blank site. I bet this helps to modify the store also. This is a default setup of the osCommerce project, products shown are for demonstrational purposes, any products purchased will not be delivered nor will the customer be billed. Any information seen on these products is to be treated as fictional Quote
procrastinate Posted July 20, 2005 Author Posted July 20, 2005 okey coo...thanks don....that's a relief! Quote
TCH-Rob Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Sorry, I took the site down for some reconfiguring. If I can get some spare time I will be putting it back on-line. Quote
vengavenga Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Hi, Harald is the project leader of the osCommerce development team. His name is just there as part of the sample data - it just gives you a chance to play around with it to see how things work before you start configuring the store the way you want it. osCommerce is an "all in one" system, so there's no need for a separate shopping cart or anything like that. When you add products via the admin area, osCommerce will automatically generate whole new pages for each product. It's easier to see than it is to explain - best thing to do is to open two browser windows, have your admin area in one and your store in the other and play around with it to see what the various changes you make in admin do to your store. You can see some real examples of live stores on my website (link in sig) Hope that helps, Ali. Quote
procrastinate Posted July 20, 2005 Author Posted July 20, 2005 Thanks Ali. So...when i add products to oscommerce, that becomes part of my website? So it's not like I create separate product pages and THEN link the "buy now" button to oscommerce for shopping cart. the product pages that i create on oscommerce ARE the pages the customers should see when they are browsing thru my website?? Is that the customization that everyone talks about? so basically you create your webpages under oscommerce but make it look like just another page of your website as opposed to the oscommerce look? Quote
vengavenga Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Yep, you got it. If you're happy with the standard osCommerce look then you don't need to do much more than add products via the admin area. osC will do everything else for you. Customizing it allows you to change the look and feel of the store. This can be done on a small scale with just a few tweaks to colours etc, or you can completely change it beyond recognition if you have the time (and patience) to do so. First thing to do though is set up a few test products to play around with - you can't do much harm (worst case scenario is that you reinstall it, which only takes a couple of clicks anyway). Have fun Ali Quote
