Awww...but..but....I wanna be a winner too!

I'm not sure if anyone's asked about this before...but I didn't really find anything on this particular topic on taring. Anyway, so I was wondering for those of you using zen and osc, which shipping module do you use? Just lookin at it it seems like zone rate would be the best way for shipping to mulitiple regions and countries. Do you guys use the tare weight function to calculate packaging weight? It seems a lil difficult to tare each item with packaging if people buy multiple items, cuz then you're counting almost double the packaging weight, no? And also is it easier to list the net weight and then tare it or just include the packaging weight in the net weight and not use the tare function at all? How hard is it to integrate USPS into the shipping module? I looked at it briefly and it looked quite complicated. Would an avg person be able to do it? I do'nt know any programming or scripts or anything...I am barely starting out on my first website...so basically is it easier to try to integrate USPS or just calculate everything manually? Thanks!

oh maybe i should add that mysite/catalog/v1.2.5/ is where i installed zencart
-
hmm...how do i access the admin page for zencart? i typed in "mysite.com/catalog/v1.2.5/admin/" which is what i thought it was after i installed it...but it says url not found. also, after i opened a help desk tic w/tech support they helped me w/the installation but zencart kept giving me a warning saying that my site was insecure cuz i had the default admin settings...after tech support help me fix a few things it said url not found. they then fixed it again and it worked (warning still there)...but all the links on the admin page (to set up products/categories/shipping, etc) didn't work....they said they coudlnt' help me anymore and referred me back to the forum...but now i can't get to the admin page anymore....did i type the wrong url?

Oscommerce And Weird Account Info
procrastinate replied to procrastinate's topic in Running your online business
Thanks Ali. So...when i add products to oscommerce, that becomes part of my website? So it's not like I create separate product pages and THEN link the "buy now" button to oscommerce for shopping cart. the product pages that i create on oscommerce ARE the pages the customers should see when they are browsing thru my website?? Is that the customization that everyone talks about? so basically you create your webpages under oscommerce but make it look like just another page of your website as opposed to the oscommerce look? -
oic, thanks david!

ook, thanks. another question, also when setting up the install for zen-cart - it told me to turn off register globals.... but after i did that, i couldn't go to my oscommerce anymore. it complained: "FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!" so can you have oscommerce and zen-cart installed/running simultaneously?
-
Hi, After playing around w/oscommerce i decided to also install zen-cart just to compare. however, when i was setting up the instal it gave me a warning showing: PHP open_basedir restrictions = /home/username/:/usr/local/sqmail/:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp what is that? and how do i fix it? thanks

okey coo...thanks don....that's a relief! -
Hmmm... I just installed osCommerce in my cpanel. after i logged into the admin page, it shows that my name is "Harald Ponce de Leon" and that i live in Florida (both of which are..ug...not me). it also thinks i have 27 products listed, 1 customer, 1 review of my products....just all sorts of weird things. I just installed it so obviously there shouldn't be anything in there...can someone tell me what's happening here? Is that supposed to be a sample/demo thing? but that's kinda weird even for sample.... Also (this may be a duh question w/a duh answer since i haven't looked ) but if i use oscommerce, is there a function where after you enter the items details they will return "buy now" script/code for you to copy and paste on to your website, just as paypal cart does? or how is it integrated to your site? TCH-Rob, I saw in a few of your posts you kindly referred ppl to your website for oscommerce examples, but i can't find where your website is (even in instances where you said "click on the www under my post," i don't see anything) . would you let me in on the secret? or if anyone else using oscommerce don't mind sharing their website, i'd greatly appreciate it as well! thanks!

what's a symbolic link? like it just links back to the public folder?
-
Oh oh...n/m i wans't looking at my images in the public folder....i guess it makes sense that there's only a url for images there. duh =P btw what is the diff b/t public_html and www? they seem to have identical content
-
Oh, haaa. ic, thanks for clearing that up, Rob! I'm not down w/the lingo so i got all confused =P haahaa ....Hmm...the last link under "show file contents" is "move file." I don't see a "file URL:" if that's what you're referring to.
-
Hmm...I don't quite understand what you mean by it being a "feature" in cpanel. What is the feature you're refering to? I also don't see a link to the "file url:" Although I just realized something, the "show file contents" actually works but only with smaller files. I have 2 differen't sized images - some are about 50k, the rest are over 100k. Only the 50k ones show up when I click on "show file contents." The ones over 100k show up as a broken link. The only way for me to view them is to type in the url in a browser. Am I doing something wrong or is that just how it is w/File Manager? Is there any way I can view large images within cPanel? I noticed that under each file description, it showed "resolution, 72x72". Is that the highest my images can be set at in order to view them in file manager? What does that translate into for file size? Sorry but I'm just really confused...

Hi, I uploaded some images to my file manager but when i click on "show file contents" to try to view my pics, i get a broken image link. The images come up tho, when i go to the image location in my browser. Can someone tell me what is wrong? Thanks!
